It's actually an original screenplay by Cormac McCarthy ("the guy that wrote No Country For Old Men and The ROad"). It's not based one of his books.

The screenplay is... well, it's Cormac McCarthey.

Nice, Brad Pitt in a sort of bad guy Rusty Ryan role.

Definitely looks dark where the heroes probably all die, or no heroes to begin with.

Meh. Not sold by the trailer. Ridley Scott has been hit or miss, although I used to love his stuff. I also think that when you start to dig too deep into an authors work to find more books to make into movies, you start getting pretty diminishing returns.
