To pic or not to pic... the OP of a game day thread

Correct me if I'm wrong here, and I very well may be, but all this fuss about the OP containing a pic of ANY size slowing down the connection may be a bunch of hooey.

IIRC, the cache on the user's computer will have that image stored after the first time pulling up the page. when the page calls for it again, it does not need to re-d/l the image, it just pulls it back up. That means it uses zero bandwidth so it should not bog anything down connection wise for the end user.

I also can't see where the server is receiving any additional strain as long as the image is hosted elsewhere. For example, in my game day thread I did an [IMG] tag from imageshack. Because that image is hosted elsewhere, the is no additional work being done by the server to accomodate a pic in the game thread OP.
