Actually he might not be.

But the WRs aren't helping him. It's a tough situation. I really wish Harwell would have been ruled eligible because I think that would have made a huge difference with how the season is going.

That being said Heaps is not the answer. Mobility is key in today's college football and I think the O lne did a pretty good job making holes for the run game but they simply can't hold pass rushers for a pocket passer.

I think Cozart showed a couple flashes of scrambling ability which will help this team moving forward.

Call me crazy but I still think we get 2 conf wins this year. It's getting better but it shows you just how deep you have to be in CFB to win.

If mobility is key, how does Alabama keep doing it with a pocket passer? Plenty of teams use them. Baylor has almost 600 yards and counting with Petty (1 run for 6 yards today). Tech always racks up massive yardage doing it. There's no set formula and no excuse for Heaps line today. None.

We ran a spread with Reesing who didn't run a ton. 1.9 per carry avg with only 600 career yards. Threw for over 11,000

It's easier to use ZR concepts + "spread" alignments in college for quite a few reasons, which is why most teams in college use them.

Getting players to do their job and prevent the massive cutbacks that both the O/I zone play create is tough to do in college. You add in the ZR, then spread out players, forcing them to either use personnel they're not comfortable with (3rd safety, 3rd/4th/5th corner, keeping an extra ILB in to stop the run who isn't very good in coverage, etc.) creates a multitude of matchup problems.

Then you can factor in that most people now(for quite a few years) have packaged run+pass concepts off the ZR, often including 3 completely different concepts (WR screen + Outside/Inside ZR + verts/sticks/etc.) and run them from the same/similar alignments and personnel groupings. It's a ****ing nightmare for college DCs, especially when you're A) Dealing with recruiting and B) Dealing with college (they're kids, more practice/less class time, etc.).

I realize that was probably too much and didn't really address the mobility aspect you were looking for.

Having a mobile QB adds in an extra factor to account for (DCs tend to become a bit more hesitant to call man because of how vertical concepts create huge gaps in the field for the QB to run). You also "legitimize" your ZR by having a QB that's an actual threat to gain 4+ per carry. Even with how teams scrape/exchange much better now, you've started to see how teams (more so in the NFL) combat that with additional blockers from various alignments/PGs out of the pistol.

Reality... we hung in there for a bit with Oklahoma. We almost got back into the game, and failed. We are who we are, and I think we overachieved at points today. I can live with this. Figured we had no chance, and for awhile, it looked like we did.
