Let's talk trucks

So, my son is about to turn 16. I've got a 2011 Toyota Tacoma. It's been paid off for a few years and ha 130k miles. I think I'm gonna give it to him and get myself a truck. I'm leaning towards a 2017 F 150. I don't want a Ford vs chevy debate. Just looking for opinions from guys that have one. Any input? Thanks

Ive had a 14 F-150 and now a 16 both with the Ecoboost. I tow a 27' towhauler with two quads. Total wight around 10k lbs. Never had a bit of problems with either one but I don't put a ton of miles on either. But I know ALOT of people driving the same truck and that engine seems to be pretty reliable.

I drive a 2017 Ford F150 company truck and everything about it is good except the all aluminum body. That alone would keep me from buying one, it is to flemsy and light.

yea I mean.. what would 10+ years of specific engineering know.. what a flimsy light piece of crap. No way they where meticulously engineered to protect the passengers in an accident and be more dent resistant than steel and completely rust proof.

Damn egghead scientist bastard engineers!

Really though, I wonder what kind of comments people are going to have 4 or 5 years from now when all half tons are aluminum

edit: this irritates me. These trucks are about 5-700 pounds lighter than the previous steel F-150, all the while having an improved stronger frame. And I am not sure what flimsy means, but the body panels of a vehicle dont determine its structural integrity, as well as you maybe thinking aluminum is 'flimsy' because it doesn't stay deformed when it gets dinged and instead bounces back.

I have eaten, slept, and breathed vehicles for all of my adult life. Especially trucks. I touched them, drove them, learned about them, was involved in service repairs, and sold them 10-12 hours a day, 5+ days a week, for the last 15 years. There is no better truck out there than a current F-150. OP do yourself a favor and stick with your plan. I am not just saying this. I did work for Ford for a very long time, but I am completely objective on vehicles, (I would tell you not to TOUCH one of those shit Lincoln LS or an automatic Focus/fiesta 12 and newer with that terrible dual clutch trans) and I no longer work for Ford so have no skin in the game.

Wrong.

F-150 ecoboost are designed to run on 87 octane.

I've got a 15 platinum with the 5.0. Zero issues. The 5.0 uses a little more fuel, but you don't run the risk of turbo replacement. Always been in a ford. Had a 2012, 2009, 2006, 2001, 1997, ,1990, 1986. Ok, I may be partial.

BUT THE CHEVY COMMERCIALS SHOW A TOOLBOX FALLING IN AN ALUMINUM F150 BED AND POKING HOLES IN IT!!!

Seriously though, that has to be about the dumbest commercial Ive ever seen. Who the **** would spent $30k+ on a truck and not have some kind of bed-liner?

Likewise. FWI the Issue was the thing kept overheating when pulling a trailer. I was with him on one of those adventures and to be honest, it was a smaller trailer with a reasonable load at the time.

Also as others have stated, the whole turbo thing sounds good, but it's wise to take the additional costs into consideration. Take it FWIW, but I would explore other options if it was me.

I have at least four neighbors here with the new Ford v6 F150s and they all seem to love it, no complaints. But that is kind of human nature, nobody is going to say they ****ed up to a known Dodge guy.

The one across the street traded in a two year old F150 with a v8 and says the new v6 has as much power. They are everywhere down here.

One of my friends got a new GMC and he loves it as well. At those prices, I doubt you are going to get anything that is not a great truck.

I have 2016 Expedition with ecoboost engine. 34,000 miles without issues. I would suggest buying based on the dealerships customer service.

I have a 2016 F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost. I can't believe a motor that small with 20 MPG can still pull 8k lbs. It has tons of power and is literally the quietest truck I have ever owned.

I love the Ford but the only other truck I would consider would be the EcoDiesel from Ram. It's a little pricey but I have read some amazing things on that truck. 28mpg Highway in a full size truck is pretty incredible. I'm sure Ford and Chevy will follow suit soon.

I had one as a company truck at one point. They are sweet, but Ford is very proud of them.
