SaveOurChiefs ‏@SaveOurChiefs

Chiefs have now confirmed that Doug Pederson will be the team's offensive coordinator.

SaveOurChiefs ‏@SaveOurChiefs

Chiefs have now confirmed that Bob Sutton will be the Defensive Coordinator.

SaveOurChiefs ‏@SaveOurChiefs

The Chiefs coaching staff list we posted earlier today was pretty spot (sans the quality coaches, strength guys,... Eric Bieniemy (Running Backs), Tommy Brasher (Defensive Line), Travis Crittenden (Assistant Strength and Conditioning), David Culley (Assistant Head Coach/Wide Receivers), Mike Frazier (Statistical Analysis Coordinator), Corey Matthaei (Quality Control), Tom Melvin (Tight Ends), Matt Nagy (Quarterbacks), Britt Reid (Quality Control) and Barry Rubin (Head Strength and Conditioning).

Contributors yes, but it's not like Sutton didn't have the same roster Rex had from 2008 to 2009. Still have Revis, Kerry Rhodes, Kris Jenkins, Calvin Pace, Bryan Thomas, David Harris, Shaun Ellis, etc. Some of those guys are pro bowl players that Sutton couldnt do crap with. That team had a lot of talent.
But no one knows if Sutton was running the d or mangina. I've heard he wasnt

you have to wait and see what Sutton wants to do

2 gap, 1 gap, whatever. He's done it all under 4 different coaches. I'm not going to assume 1 gap attacking defense. But I'll assume 2 gap, because that's what he did when he was defensive coordinator and that's what we also just ran last season. So he might want to continue that consistency. Though we, the fans dont want that, that is a very likely scenario you have to consider. Gibbs, Thomas, all still here from the 2 gap coaching last season. Gibbs even calling the 2 gap defense at the end of the year. So why Sutton wouldnt at least consider that angle you have to at least think about.

I'm not going to expect attacking defense until I see it. So I wont be let down in case they roll out the same 2 gap again.

how can you ignore it? It gives you the type of coach/play calling we might have on defense, and it is more of that bend but not break defense.

They are saying that team had a lot of talent when he was d-coordinator and soon as he stepped down it jumped right to #1. That is not something you can just give a free pass to and ignore. It's not pick and chose statistics and analysis.

The odds of him changing and doing something different after doing the same style for 20 years is like what.... 5 percent?
I don't see why you would judge him when he was running a defense he had never been apart of. You're a moron if you don't understand Mangini was running that defense.

I think you are vastly downplaying their impact on that defense. They were both highly sought after guys that year.

you are changing here.

First you say he had done the same thing for 20 years, now you are saying he has done it all...

Which is it?

I don't know what scheme Sutton is going to run, but one thing I do like, even though I am not nearly as happy that Ried was hired as most everyone else, he at least isn't trying to pigeon hole our defense into a scheme that doesn't fit the personnel in place.

Interviewed yesterday IIRC. There was a rumor I believe that the Bears would allow him to interview but wouldn't necessarily let him leave, if I remember correctly.

I think we're waiting for Phil Emery to finish his 100th interview. Then we'll see how the Bears' staff shakes out.

Yet when the Chiefs hire someone that fits that description, the morons bitch about.

JFC. I'm convinced half this forum was born with lady parts.
PART (but not all) of the reason for this seemingly bi-polar behavior is just that we have a lot of people chiming in, so half of them have one view and half have another. It's much less risky to bitch about a move than to praise it, so you rarely hear both sides chiming in equally.

There are SOME individuals who are very wishy washy, but I think it's mostly that we have a variety of opinions that are expressed at different times.

He hasn't updated it in a couple years, so I'm not sure if he's still doing it or not, but wutamess was doing tattoo work a while back.

Well, I also think it comes down to unfamiliarity, which in this case is a little odd, IMO.

I watched Pederson back up Favre for, what felt like, most of his career. I'd seen him win games for Holmgren and Reid. He rose quickly through the coaching ranks, starting in 2009 as a Offensive Quality Control guy, but that shouldn't be shocking given his long and successful career as a quality backup.

It's not my age or the age of the people posting that is shocking, it's the myopia that seems to make itself known with these types of hires.

I realize that many CP posters don't watch Chiefs games each and every week. But it's also clear (and somewhat shocking) that a lot of people just don't watch the NFL, period.
