It depends on what you're doing. The Feds define a work week as 40 hours, so normally that means 5 8 hour shifts. But current thought means whatever we can get out the clown. My thought, over 35 years in my profession, was it's not about the time, but what you accomplish. There were some days I worked 20+ and some days I was there for 4. I worked with folks that were there 12 hours a day, but what for? When you get down to it, what did you accomplish? They were there for suckup and their own failure to manage their time.
If you're working for someone that needs to see you there for stupid hours for no reason, move on. If you need to stay, by all means stay. But if you're just there for facetime, what a BS crowd you're working for. |

I use to work 60-80 a week as a GM for advance auto parts but it was too much for me. Well the time wasn't too much but the stress that came with it was.
About a year or so ago I stepped down and now I put in 40-45 a week as a service writer for an auto repair shop. I took about a 20k a year pay cut but damn it was the best decision I've made. My quality of life is good as it has been in a while right now. I will have to make another move soon at some point because there is no long term future or retirement options where I'm at currently. I'm about to be 29 though so I have a little bit of time. |

Some good old fashion advise in this book that will take you were you want to go financially. Now if you want to go be successful, make money, support your family, go for it! Here's what I'll say... Sometimes you can't, or it's hard, to do much about what's coming in. IE - what you're getting paid. But what you can control is what's going out. - How much debt do you have? - Do you have a unnecessary $400 dollar car payment while you're trying to get ahead? It's all covered in that book. I get paid by all accounts an average salary. Same for my wife. But together with the principals in that book, we've been very blessed and are doing just fine. Only debt is on the house and save every month for retirement. Check it out. It will help. |

Cool that's what I'm wanting to do after I get my tax money. Got to do something different that can make some money at. Do you take the written test first then they let you get behind the wheel?

I usually put in 45 Hrs a week. I got sweet hours though. 7-3 and overtime is at time and a half after 8 hrs or 40 hrs. Once a month I am on call so I get a bonus pay for that week, and then a guarantee minimum of 2 hrs of 2x pay.
Yes I work for someone else. But great benefits, great retirement package. |

Bro I am not sure how to put this in hours. I am 36, work in IT at a NC University (40 + hours but have plenty of time off built up), 9hours a semester college student (GI bill is paying for me to get an actual degree in Networking), and I do design / blue prints for an Infrastructural Cabling Business as my side business. Have 3 kids and a wife.
I do all I can do to be debt free. Very few people in today's world can go work an 8-12 hour a day job and have enough money to own a home, a little land, raise a family, and have a little change to fall back on for the rainy day. Best advice I can give is always live on a budget (tell your money where it is going to go before you get it) and be great at time management. |
