That last bit there is very important. Unless you're linked in with up to the millisecond ticker information and have quick access to a broker/trader to execute a trade very quickly, you'll end up spending a lot of time churning invisible money for little gain. Learned that lesson the hard way myself with Apple and Google and so forth. Made solid money on the trades, but the return wasn't as great as it should have been, which is why I've really been into steady, government funded, nearly recession proof business or industries where the dividend yield is a decent %, and playing the long game. Discipline is huge too. If you want a large investment portfolio, its more about investment and reinvestment, than it is about trying to make a quick buck. You'll do better playing the long game with a solid company with a firm foundation and leadership, and reinvesting part of your salary or bonus money or money you don't need into it. This is going to sound very weird, but when I'm not at work, I'm usually at the casino playing blackjack, and the winnings I receive there, almost entirely goes into my stock portfolio every 2-3 months, keeps me entertained, busy, and growing wealth. |

Portfolio A is for the long term investment/reinvestment/dividend re-introduction types while Portfolio B is for the short term "incubator" stocks that I like on paper, but don't seem to perform well in terms of holding their ground in volume. The combination of all stocks combined, I've probably seen about a 345% return on so far over 13 years without really having to get too "Dirty" with my hands in trades, just a few primers on one side, and the big guys on the other. Diversification is very nice, but don't buy into it. Yes, diversification on a micro-market structure is a great way to leverage your money, it is an overall "bad" strategy on the all encompassing market abroad. Managers, sales guys, "The next it solutions to market analysis" will all tell you to diversify, and they do this because they want to sell you on more stock, and get you to carry that "dog with fleas" stock in your portfolio so they can make a rip on it, or the worst case scenario, try to get you to swap out that old dog for the new dog in your "diversification field" of need. Stick to what you know, what you can predict, and expect nothing from your investments. |

Diversification is not about just increasing the number of stocks you hold. It's about holding investments that have different correlations (like commodities and domestic stocks, or EM stocks and domestic stocks, stocks and bonds, etc) so it smooths your returns and reduces your timing risk (the risk that you will need money from your investment portfolio at a time when it's down in value). There is a tremendous amount of research that has been spent in this area and the results are pretty one sided in favor of diversification. It's ok to be concentrated within an asset class (holding a small number of US large caps for example) but then you're introducing a huge security selection risk (which is fine if you are comfortable with that). Diversification and rebalancing are key to long term returns. |

WDAS- is the best stock going. Soon to be the biggest provider of Solar energy with their Power Clouds. They just funded Power Cloud 12 after only 3 weeks and are starting on 13 now. No other company in the world are putting in as many solar farms.
Stock is at 3 cents a share and should be over a buck by the end of the year. Up 4800 % so far this year. Good Luck! |

Maybe this is a great company and best of luck to you if you invest, but I stay away from penny stocks. About 8 years ago, my company expanded our office and the way the building was laid out, we had to take a little more space than we needed. We got the bright idea to rent it out, and we rented it to some guy who told us he had a tech company. He talked a big game and we leased two offices to him. That guy was all hat and no cattle, and I'm not sure he had a hat. We constantly battled with him to pay his $400 per month rent, and I think it's possible that every word that came out of his mouth was a lie. When he finally left, he left an expensive piece of equipment that we stored for a year or two, and we finally contacted the manufacturer about what its value was (or something), and they told us that he'd ordered it and never paid for it. What's amazing is that he had started a publicly held company that was a penny stock. I don't think there was anything - ANYTHING - in this company but this guy's bluster, a piece of paper, and a piece of stolen equipment. I have no idea how he managed to pull that off, but I can't imagine any outcome other than him taking money and investors losing it. After seeing him in action, there's no way I would ever buy a penny stock.

I'm just mad that I bought UBNT (ubiquiti networks) at the beginning of the year. Their stock has plummeted.
Yahoo's rise has stagnated, too. I bought a lot of Disney, though. I expect they're going to do very well with Star Wars. |

It's rigged, man. The whole thing is rigged.
Best I can say is just dollar cost average then buy and hold, and start very young when you will hit many bull markets throughout your life. Some people start when they are nearing retirement, as if they have either the time or the risk to weather a secular bear market. Dollar cost average into an index fund when you are young and that is about the safest way to stay ahead of inflation and have something built up for retirement. Other than that, the market is fixed to make sure the small investor ends up transferring his wealth to the institutional investors. |
