2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Yeah, I get that the rest of those guys were either terrible or had some ridiculous, embarrassing story surrounding them, but I don't remember anything that bad about Randa or Dye. Other than the fact that we got mother****ing Nefi Perez from Dye (I'm still pissed about that), but that's not Dye's fault.....

Good God, there's some bad memories in these last few posts.

Runelvys Hernandez is in Japan I think. Lima time is the one that has passed on to the Mike Sweeney's hernia in the sky.

I loved Dye & Randa. and all those others named, too.* I was just keeping the old Ken Harvey magic alive.**

* I do think, however, that it shows how weak we've been in terms of raw talent, though.

** Not a fan of Ken Harvey.

Morris may or may not belong on the list, but don't use RBIs as a justification for adding him. This is a terrible metric because it's dependent upon other players.

I didn't look at his OBP, but, given the average, I'd say it's going to be pretty decent. Thus, low RBIs are more a product of bad luck and/or shitty teammates.

He did have that goofy stance though where he would kind of tip toe in the batters box before swinging.

I'd like just the Our Time slogan in simple font (none of that squiggly stuff, I'm not a fan) and maybe some cool effects like you've done, just make them look cool.

If I can't have them both as a sig due to how the pic layouts one being horizontal and the other vertical, I'll take the Escobar one as a Avatar and get rid of Jessica for the season.
How about Escobar jumping over Jessica?

Jose Offerman has the highest career batting average in team history.

Keith Miller is my least favorite Royal ever. I would root for him to K with runners on to avoid hitting into a DP.

I'll play. Worst Royals in my 3 decades of fandom:

C - Chad Kreuter (was awful as a starter in KC)
1B - Ross Gload (He's a grinder)
2B - Keith Miller (at least Lind was a GG defender)
SS - Kurt Stillwell (because they could have had Barry Larkin instead)
3B - Dean Palmer

LF - Chuck Knoblach
CF - Tom Goodwin (tough one. He was OK, but KC has had a pretty good run of CFs during my lifetime)
RF - Michael Tucker (don't care that we got Dye for him. Hated him).

DH - Calvin Pickering
UTIL - David Howard

SP - Hiram Davis (the anti-ice)
SP - Dan Reichert
SP - Blake Stein
SP - Miguel Asenscio
SP - Kyle Snyder

CP - Ambiorix Burgos (by far the worst closer they've had in my lifetime. Montgomery/Soria account for about half my fandom by themselves
RP - Albie Lopez
RP - Mark Davis

Your whole post should have started and ended with Roberto Hernandez and Doug Henry.

Kevin McReynolds is and will always be my least favorite Royal. The guy had a moment of averageness as a corner outfielder in the NL, came to KC in one of the worst trades in the history of the Royals organization (giving up Sabe), then proceeded to not give a flip about baseball for his 2 years here. I was sitting in Left field corner in a game where he went up for a ball against the wall... he jumped up and intentionally avoided hitting the wall, giving a half-hearted effort. jogged over to the ball and casually tossed it back into the infield while the player motored around to third for a triple. The thing that irked me and the entire stadium more than anything was that after having tossed it back in, he bent over and was fixing his socks before the ball had even made it to the cut-off man. Didn't watch the play, he flat out didn't give a shit. The entire left field stands boo'ed him the rest of the game every time he jogged around after base hits and fly balls... One of the biggest POS's I can ever remember having watched play a professional sport. If I remember correctly, the opposing pitcher was even cheered when he struck McReynolds out. That could be my own revisionist history though...
