An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

Dane's such an expert. The NFL doesn't move games. Well, not often, Well, not to Monday because of ESPN. Well to Monday but only with regional broadcasts. Also, there's a new contract so all that stuff that he said didn't happen (that actually did happen) doesn't matter after all. So he's right. After all, an expert.

Any gaps in the author's knowledge can be filled in by Dane, who is not only an expert in contracts, but also privy to the specific terms of the various NFL broadcasting deals.

ESPN signed a 1.9 billion dollar deal to broadcast MNF in 2011. From that point forward, they have exclusive rights to Monday night broadcasts, hence the Philly game in December 2011 was played on Tuesday night, not Monday night.

ESPN will not allow ANY NFL games on any other network to be broadcast on Monday nights per their contract.

I'm going to say this one more time. Hopefully it stops this bickering.

I'd like to have seen the game postponed until Jan 3rd. It's a Thursday night, after the regular season is scheduled to end. Right before Wildcard Weekend.

You can put it on NFL network, making it a national game and collecting more money than if it were just two local markets. It doesn't displace any other network scheduling. The NFL could share that revenue with whatever network was set to run the game. It doesn't split the MNF viewership.

And the city and the players can focus on healing or moving forward or being with family or resting or whatever they need most for the next few days.

As far as I can see, problem solved.

I NEVER said that the NFL didn't postpone games.

When the Vikings were brought up initially, I confused the collapse of the dome with the blizzard last year. The Vikings were involved in both games and last year's game WAS moved to Tuesday.
