Geno Smith fans roll call

NEW THREAD HEADER (11/17/12):

The list is gone. We will all be Geno Smith fans when he gets drafted by the Chiefs. For historical documentation's sake, I'll keep the list in a separate post on this thread: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3314

WHY GENO SMITH?
If you're wondering if Geno Smith is right for you, check out this brilliant post by Saccopoo:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=5388

Next, we have a few GIFs you may be interested in from the Oklahoma game. Insane potential. These are the elite throws that very few QBs can make. What more can I say? Geno Smith can be a franchise QB in the NFL, and the Chiefs need to take a shot on him.

GIF #1:
Spoiler!

GIF #2:
Spoiler!

GIF #3 (My favorite):
Spoiler!

HOW DO WE GET HIM HERE?

Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick
2. [X] Get Pioli and the Patriot Way cronies the **** out
3. [X] Hire new GM/coach

OPTIONAL (but highly recommended):
4. [ ] Re-sign/tag Bowe, who really wants to play in KC with Geno
5. [ ] Re-sign/tag Albert

I suppose you'll have to define "going nuts"

Right now you're committing the logical fallacy of claiming all bad drafted 1st round QBs were QBs that CP went nuts over. In reality, CP goes nuts over ANY QB within reach in the draft. About the only counter-example I can think of is Tim Tebow in recent years.

Some QBs get more discussion than others due to hardcore backers (Mecca and Sanchez) and virulent haters (all the "true fans" and Sanchez).

So no, you can't just place all the bad QBs on CP and then leave out the good ones. Luck and RGIII have to be considered.

And right now you're a part of the problem, not a part of the solution.

The 2004 draft class happens once every... ever. Like it or not, our great QB is going to have to come from one of these "average but probably better than Cassel" QBs if we don't start tanking seasons to get the top QB.

That's where the "legitimately good QBs" are. It makes no sense for you to have these intensely high standards for drafted QBs and then not want to see the team one day be put in the position to go get one.

I'm in if we can get him. I am NOT in the trade away 10 drafts to get him camp at all. Love to have him with the 1st pick plus maybe a sweetener.

We coin flipped with Oakland. It went #3 Ryan #4 McFaillen #5 Dorsey

We technically didn't have a shot at Ryan. Although that should have been another situation where we attempted to trade up.

I'm not part of anything. My standards aren't that high, there are at least 3-5 QB's worth taking a flier on every draft. The "weak draft class" stuff is always weak. I've always argued that most of the time draft position is not even THAT important. It is... but even in the late first round there are usually guys who become quality players. The difference is teams like the Ravens and Packers draft quality starters, and the Chiefs draft guys who don't contribute.

The thing you notice right away about Ryan is he's smart. He walks up to the line and checks things and knows when guys are coming when he has time when he has to get the ball out.

He also has incredible pocket presence he knows how much time he has every time, it's uncanny. He isn't fast or overly mobile but he can move just enough to buy time..

The top notch intangibles they're all there.

So I was checking some things out.......

Falcons fans think they'll take Jake Long with their first pick then go with a QB with 1 of their 2 2nd round picks....that would cause a few people's heads here to explode I'm sure....

So if that does happen, can you possibly pass on Matt Ryan?
etc...

Quote:
I wouldn't play him year 1, or well till the end of it....

Also even if you took him first you could still get a OT and at least 1 Guard....

I like Ryan tons more than next years QB prospects, what are we suppose to do wait until there's a can't miss guy in 5 years? By then we'll be mediocre again and win 7 games and then we'll never be able to get a QB.
etc..

Quote:
That's a decent comparison I guess. Ryan can move just enough, I don't think he has the pure physical talent Roethlisberger does but I think he's better in other facets.

This is probably going to be our only chance to take a franchise QB, right now I say we make the pick and ride with it. You hit on it you just put yourself in position to be good for a long time.

So we should use draft picks to take flier prospects but shouldn't ever roll the dice on a guy that MIGHT need to be drafted 5-10 spots too high?

That was the case with Sanchez, Tannehill, and others. You said we should stop being stupid about QBs who aren't "legitimate"

Which one is it, man?

I never said that. I don't know why you're putting words in my mouth. I would've considered trading an entire draft for Andrew Luck. He is that good. Now someone like Tannehill, I don't know. I know I'm in the minority... I just wasn't crazy about him. He's not horrible by any means, but I definitely wouldn't have made an RGIII trade for him.

But it goes back to that I believe a truly good personnel person could spot the next guy down the line and still make a good pick.
