*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

It really just looks like dried and hardened tofu to me.

Seitan is wheat gluten, and it really can look nasty (specifically some of the canned asian varieties). It can also be delicious (BBQ'd seitan in particular is quite good).

It's like brussel sprouts. "You just have to know how to cook them right." Yeah, right.
I love brussel sprouts. You actually just induced a small Pavlovian trigger.

And my tofu is the absolute balls. I made a tofu marsala last week that was awesome. I'll also do a vegan eggs benedict with tofu that's kick ass. Breakfast tofu scrabble is easy and delicious. (Make it even look like eggs by using turmeric to color the tofu.)

However, the entire key to a vegan existence is oatmeal in the morning. You've got to have that ballast.

Like I said, I don't eat a lot of tofu.

Maybe once every week or two weeks max.

Why would I eat inferior food when I don't have too?

And I also love brussels. Here is my favorite non-traditional way to cook brussel sprouts (for those who haven't acquired the taste):

1 lb. brussels (food process or shred/slice into slaw)
Thumb size of ginger, minced
Garlic
Olive Oil
Fish Sauce (or soy sauce)
Limes
Peanuts (1 cup, chopped or food processed)
Sriracha
White Wine

* Heat EVOO in pan.
* Add ginger and garlic. Sautee until fragrant
* Crank up heat and add brussel sprouts. Stir pretty much constantly (you're basically stir frying them)
* Add a splash or two of white wine. Cook until evaporated.
* Add a splash or two of fish sauce. Cook until evaporated.
* Toss in peanuts and cook a little longer.
* Brussel sprouts should be softened and flash fried now. Turn off heat. Add chopped cilantro and green onions. Squeeze in juice of half a lime. Squirt in some sriracha. Eat.

My point exactly.

You think eggplant is inferior. Inferior to what isn't even a question. There are many recognized and respected dishes that utilize eggplant, but, at least to you, any mention of the item as a food choice results in you mocking it.

Small minded. Close minded. Whatever.

"It's not on the Subway menu, so it must be stupid" thought process.

Excellent suggestion.

The basis for this is an excellent way to prepare brussel sprouts. Steam/soften them and then pan fry them.
Season them how you desire. A little acidity helps, as you suggested with wine, citrus, soy, whatever. Perhaps a little sugar to help caramelize their outside layers.
