Fumbling out of the opponent's end zone
I've never been a fan of this rule. When Spencer Ware fumbled that ball by the pylon yesterday and the Jets got the ball, I was sure we were gonna blow the game. The Jets didn't deserve to get the ball 1st and 10 from the 20 yard line because of that play. They need to change the rule. If it goes out of the end zone, the fumbling team gets the ball at the spot of the fumble. The defense has to recover it in bounds to gain possession. Just my 2 cents.

Hated the rule when it worked in our favor against Buffalo in 2014.

Still hate it.

Why can't the NFL just not allow the team who fumbled to advance the ball? If they recover their own fumble, the ball is placed at the spot of the fumble, and if it goes through the end zone, it's placed at the 1. That reduces the incentive to fumble on purpose towards the goal line

Thanks for the kind words, it definitely sucked having my team ripped away, although given the state of the team I'm probably better off with the Chiefs anyway.

Plus I'm on the way West side of St Louis anyway so I can be at Arrowhead & watch an actual NFL team play & it's only about a 90 minute longer drive. Plus I have friends/relatives in KC that will let me crash at their place

I like this. Since the defense didn't get the recovery, they don't get the benefit of the touchback...but since the offense didn't take care of the football near the goal line, they don't get to retain possession.

Besides, if the fumbler lost possession before hitting the pylon, that's the moment possession changes. If he actually got to the pylon, it would have been a touchdown.

I think the ball should have been placed at the one for the offense but for the person who fumbled be Ware made to read a Deberg_1990 thread. That should fix the fumble problem.

Why would this not be the same sort of thing? He obviously made no attempt to get back in bounds because his plan all along was to stay out of bounds.
