John Cusak and Matthew Broderick at some point.

Cranston was a tough sell to the network, d/t his stint as Malcolm's dad. But creator Vince Gilligan remembered him from an episode of the X-Files Gilligan directed and Cranston guest starred.

Broderick might have been interesting, although it's tough to see him as a bad guy. Probably how I'd feel about Cranston had I watched him on tv before...

For some reason, when I was a kid I thought John Cryer, Matthew Brodrick, and John Cusack were the same person.

Psychopaths are huge risk takers, think they're smarter than everyone, and are master manipulators. I'd say he's there.
