Biking Question

I have a Road Bike which I really enjoy riding. I am wanting to branch out a little and take up Gravel and maybe Cyclocross. I have tried MTB, and just didn't care for it.

Any suggestions, tips etc? I am looking at the Salsa Warbird and Trek line of bikes right now.

Oh yes, I've been to Slaughter Pen and all over the Eureka Springs area. I raced in the Fat Tire Festival this past summer. Great trails in NWAR, I need to check out more of them.

We had a dude who rolled on a Schwinn on one of our weekly group rides a few years back, he seemed to do ok on it. When I was a kid back in the 1930s Schwinn was top of the line. Not so much anymore.

The big thing with those low end bikes is when something breaks (and something will) they're generally not worth fixing.

That's what happened with my last Mongoose. $150 from Walmart. Needed quite a bit of work after a few years, more than the bike was worth. Had a bent frame. No idea how as I only rode it to the gym and back. I think I bought it that way and never noticed.

I love this video. Skip ahead to about 2:30 to witness the carnage. Phil is hilarious.

He admitted it's 20 years old but in great shape. Sees not problem with the price.

Eh, the problem with the price is you can go get a brand new Trek FX1 for a little over a $100 more, and it's going to be better fit for the type of riding you want to do. And it has a warranty and most bike shops give at least 1 year of free adjustments.
