-- Beans - the past due thread.

Hi,

I'd like to know what beans you enjoy? How you make them? What side-items you include. Condiments atop their finished product.

Just go on and on for months about nothing but beans, here.

I love beans and they're super healthy, affordable and act as a virtual meat.

Anyone ever use ham base?

Anyhow - go on about your bean preferences!

Today I'm fixing Great Northerns and Pintos / Medley - Ham hock as well

All About Beans

The Ham Loaf guy's procedure has been embedded below - as has a bean/Legume chart for reference (though incomplete)

any species is fine including red/purple O's.
Great point, we do on occasion have Navy beans, Pinto beans and I agree on the onion. The newness is wearing off of the black beans, so I will probably start alternating more often.
I froze a bunch of Jalapeno and chilli peppers last fall from our garden and I add as many of those as the Mrs. can tolerate.

I don't salt anything, and last time I checked bullion, I think it was pretty much straight sodium.

Sodium is being shoved down our throats, almost unavoidable, but I don't want to jump on my sodium band box and hijack your thread.

The Mrs. loves them and mixes them with corn and milk. I believe she calls it suckotash or something like that. I don't go out of my way to cook them very often.

You might try the baby frozen ones, they don't taste like wet cardboard like the canned ones.

Can we dedicate this thread to Red Beans? It’s his birthday today.

Happy birthday Red Beans.

This thread has been a wonderful journey. Thank you. I love legumes.

One summer delight is cold bean salad that will typically have beans and veggies and a sweet vinegary sauce. Black beans and brown rice with some vegetables and salsa is a great meal if you're trying to lose weight. Chickpeas are great in so many things.

I really hesitate to introduce any negativity, but I really can't eat "baked beans". The Bush beans style from a can. I feel like many children grow up and develop an aversion to beans because their mom put that garbage on the table on a regular.

If given the option, you always chose bone-in.

"Green Freedom" deserves an thread of it's own...A friend in WA thought so...

While green beans are called bean, are they? Since you consume the flesh and the seed...

And yes, that sounds good.

Overall I'm pretty meh on beans. There are some dishes that are great, though.

I'm OK with pinto and black refried beans. I do enjoy red beans and rice in moderation. I love beans in chili. BBQ beans are good.

But pass on typically bean soups, baked beans, beans and weenies.
