Let's talk about the Chargers...

Chiefs can wrap up their 3rd straight AFCW title on Thursday w/ a win over the Chargers.

Phyllis typically shits his pants in Arrowhead, but their passing game presents a problem as we saw wk1. Lots of dropped passes on wide open looks. Wk1 looks a lot different if their WR's come down w/ some of those misses.

Chiefs OL gets to go up against Bosa this go around, OL will have their hands full again going up against him and Ingram. OL will need to play a lot better Thurs, than they did today.

Even though it's TNF, Arrowhead will be rockin' for another primetime game and I think Patrick Mahomes shines, and puts the team on his back. Gonna be tough though, Chiefs are banged up, and it's a short week. But it's a short week for them too, and they have to travel.

The real NFL season has just begun fellas. Go Chiefs!

Does nobody remember our SNF game against these guys in the cold last season? Rivers had multiple passes that just died in mid air.

This is the type of game that the Chargers struggle with. Short week vs a coach that routinely outcoaches them, travel to a hostile environment and play in bad temperatures.

Rivers doesn’t have the same velocity on his deep passes. Bob Sutton always gets the best of him and Rivers doesn’t do well in cold weather.

It’s going to rain during the day. It will be below freezing and we have one of the few QB’s that has the arm to negate weather issues.

I'm sure this has been answered, but if the Chargers win who holds the tie breaker?

I believe the Chiefs do because of division record.

Yup, that would make it very important to win the last 2 though the Chargers still have to play the Ravens and I don't see them pulling that one off as a win. Rivers isn't mobile enough to do what Mahomes did.

It's Andy Reid and Arrowhead. Patrick Mahomes got this!

We do and will but we would have to win out assuming the Chargers do. If we end up tied with them at the end of the season we win the division.

We beat them = Division is ours
We lose to them = Division is ours as long as we win out assuming they win out
We beat them and the Seahawks or Raiders = division is ours

We win any 2 of our next 3 = HFA is ours

Not really...He's only caught one TD in 7 meetings and that came this year. At Arrowhead he averages around 6 catches for 80 yards:

2018 - 8 for 108 - 1TD
2017 - 5 for 61 - 0TD
2017 - 5 for 54 - 0TD - HOME
2016 - 6 for 63 - 0TD - HOME (INJURED IN-GAME)
2016 - INJURED
2015 - INJURED
2015 - INJURED
2014 - 6 for 58 - 0TD

Good article from AP on what it takes to prepare for a Thursday night game. This shows why visiting teams have a tremendous disadvantage for Thursday night games.

https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2018/...l-medical-team

Start of article:

With the mandate over the last couple of years that all teams are required to play at least one Thursday game (and some teams playing more), advances on how to prepare for those games have come in many forms.

Roughly 100 hours go by if you play a normal Sunday midday game before a team has to play again. That’s crazy to think about when you consider all that goes on into a typical NFL week, let alone an expedited one. Consider taking your weekly job duties and being asked to do that in roughly one-third of the time. That’s our timeframe that we are considering here. If you fly home from an away game and then have a Thursday game, the timeframe is even worse.

Traveling can be a huge disadvantage
I once worked a Thursday night game when I was working for the Eagles where we traveled to Seattle to play. Crossing three time zones after playing a game three days before was just nuts. We got waxed, bad. Our players just had nothing in them. There is a reason that the league no longer schedules teams more than two time zones away on a Thursday—it just is not fair. The home team already has a huge advantage, and the stats support this.

First, let’s consider practice. While every team does it differently, there really is no practice on short weeks, just sped-up walkthroughs. Most NFL players will tell you that their bodies don’t begin to recover from a Sunday game until at least Tuesday. On a short week, all the practice is done by Tuesday. There simply is no way to hold a “normal” practice and be productive with it, as the player’s bodies can’t handle it. So, practice is a little shorter and more concise, done at a quick speed, usually without helmets or even pads. Monday will typically be a light walkthrough, Tuesday a bit longer, Wednesday just a morning recap of what happened the two days previous. That’s it! That’s all you have time for. It’s crazy to think about.

"Chargers have a good pass rush" = Mahomes

"We aren't slowing Phillip Rivers down" = Mahomes

"We might be without Ware, Erving, Berry, Watkins, etc." = Mahomes

Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes.
It reminds me of the scene in "Princess Bride" when Fezik says to Indigo:

"It looks like they have more than 30 men"

Indigo replies:

"Who cares? We have him."

That's how I feel about any matchup analysis these days. Mahomes is our "Man in 'Red'".
