OH YEA!! It's Mock Draft time

Q mock draft: Week 24 3hr Greg Robinson enters elite status
By BRENT SOBLESKI
http://q.usatoday.com/2014/02/26/q-m.../?sf23270946=1

The NFL combine is complete. Over 300 players were poked, prodded and paraded in front of NFL decision-makers. As a result, the makeup of May’s NFL draft changed dramatically based on performances seen in Indianapolis.

The biggest story surrounding the combine was the evolving status of the offensive tackle position.

Auburn’s Greg Robinson put together a jaw-dropping workout. At 6-4 and 332 pounds with 35-inch arms, Robinson personifies a prototype NFL left tackle. He then blew everyone away with a phenomenal workout. Robinson posted a sub-5.0 40-yard dash. He showed explosiveness and quickness in all of the measured drills. And he was nearly flawless during positional drills.

Robinson did all of this while battling a head cold.

Robinson answered the question of whether he or Texas A&M’s Jake Matthews was the top offensive tackle prospect. While Robinson will never be the technician Matthews is, Robinson’s talent ceiling is much higher.
Meanwhile, Alabama’s Cyrus Kouandjio was on the opposite side of the spectrum. Kouandjio entered his junior campaign as a Top 10 prospect. He struggled in 2013. And he didn’t make his situation any better with a poor workout at the combine. To top things off, there are now concerns about the long-term stability of Kouandjio’s knees. As a result, Kouandjio fell out of the first round of a Q mock draft for the first time all year.

Finally, other players moved around the board.

Fresno State’s Derek Carr has been projected as a potential Top 10 pick. But those projections were based primarily on need more so than talent. If the Vikings pass on Carr at No. 8 overall, the quarterback could realistically drop out of the first round entirely.

Other players such as Virginia Tech’s Kyle Fuller, UCLA’s Xavier Su’a-Filo, Oregon State’s Brandin Cooks and Ohio State’s Bradley Roby all worked their way into first round consideration due to a good weekend in Indianapolis.

Now on to this week’s mock draft…

1. Texans Blake Bortles, QB UCF
2. Rams (from WASH) Greg Robinson, OT Auburn
3. Jaguars Johnny Manziel, QB Texas A&M
4. Browns Teddy Bridgewater, QB Louisville
5. Raiders Jadeveon Clowney, DE South Carolina
6. Falcons Khalil Mack, LB Buffalo
7. Buccaneers Jake Matthews, OT Texas A&M
8. Vikings Anthony Barr, LB UCLA

10. Lions Justin Gilbert, CB Oklahoma State
11. Titans Mike Evans, WR Texas A&M
12. Giants Zack Martin, OT Notre Dame
13. Rams Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S Alabama
14. Bears Calvin Pryor, S Louisville
15. Steelers Taylor Lewan, OT Michigan
16. Cowboys Aaron Donald, DT Pittsburgh
17. Ravens C.J. Mosley, LB Alabama
18. Jets Eric Ebron, TE North Carolina
19. Dolphins Timmy Jernigan, DT Florida State
20. Cardinals Dee Ford, DE Auburn
21. Packers Louis Nix III, NT Notre Dame
22. Eagles Odell Beckham Jr., WR LSU

26. Browns (from IND)Xavier Su’a-Filo, OG UCLA
27. Saints Kony Ealy, DE Missouri
28. Panthers Brandin Cooks, WR Oregon State

I hope the Raiders don't get Clowney, and I really hope the Donkos don't get Roby.

I always get the feeling that these draftniks don't follow or care about the Chiefs, or they make these predictions just by Googling our roster. Doesn't it seem like it's always a lineman or a WR? (Not that I am against Lee)

Also, I think the Rams would take Clowney.

I hope that the Broncos get Roby. Burnt Toast on double moves all day long. No to Lee, just no.

Blake Bortles does not go first. He's an average QB at best.

No. Roby was a product of very poor coaching IMO. We played 10 yards off the ball, we were young, injured and scared in the secondary and it showed. Roby is a player.

"I've seen a lot of Teddy. I don't have him in [Andrew] Luck's class as a prospect," one veteran NFC scout told SI.com.
...
When asked to compare Bridgewater to recent No. 1 picks at the quarterback position, the scout wasn't sold on how Bridgewater stacks up.

"I think when you look at a guy like Sam Bradford, he was damn good in college. I loved that guy. He was pinpoint accurate, with ball placement, timing, arm strength. He had all those areas [better than Bridgewater]. "

It's important to remember that how a player projects as a prospect doesn't preclude him from outperforming that grade as a pro. Just look at Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers.

Bradford has underwhelmed as an NFL player, but remember, the former Oklahoma standout was an elite prospect entering the draft. In fact, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers team operations coordinator Joe Bussell believes Bradford is the closest comparable recent quarterback to Bridgewater.

"I think a good comparison -- and one that might scare people away -- is Sam Bradford. Bradford's mediocre production in the NFL will frighten some, but if you remove access to those results, Bradford is one of the most highly-touted quarterbacks ever, coming out of the 2010 draft," Bussell explained.

"He received high grades in accuracy, congruent with what I see in Bridgewater. While, [Matthew] Stafford was one of those QBs that [needed] a couple years to grow in the NFL as we've seen, Bridgewater is the type [that] can come in and start immediately, while making minimal mistakes as he learns on the job."

It was clear, speaking with NFL evaluators current and former, that Bridgewater isn't in the tier of players like Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, or even Matthew Stafford in terms of pure physical ability and talent. But that doesn't take the shine off his potential star in the NFL.

I really don't think Clowney is going to be all that special. He's had a couple big hits that everyone jizzed over, but he has also disappeared.

I would take Donald over Clowney right now. Depending on what scheme Donald ends up in, I would bet that he'll have more TFL and sacks than Clowney will as their rookie years.

I like Lee going to us...thats a good call. VERY unclear who goes where first few picks at this point....everybody at top is needing QBs besides Rams but who knows...i bet we see a couple teams trading down out of top 5 for extra picks.

I could see him playing hard in a contract year, but I don't think they will be able to keep him motivated otherwise.
