There appears to be enough opposition to deny Pelosi the speaker's gavel

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/nanc...ry?id=59180391

ABC News is reporting they have identified at least 14 Democrats who have vowed to oppose Pelosi on the floor even if the caucus picks her, and that number could grow to 20.

Depending on the outcome of uncalled elections, Pelosi can not lose more than 13 Democrats.

Earlier I said that Pelosi couldn't afford 14 no's. That math was based on what looked like the Dem result a week and a half ago, but since then some races that were thought to be GOP holds (including races where the media had to take back a "call" and call it for the Dems) have increased Pelosi's margin for error. She can now probably afford 17 No's, so the signatures on the letter won't be enough.

Pelosi is going to make it. She just flipped one of the 16 Dems who signed the letter and didn't even have to give him anything, she just promised votes on 2 bills that she already supports.

This was always going to be like a prisoner's dilemma. If they hung together they could force Pelosi out, but if guys start bailing out of the opposition, then you do not want to be still voting against her when she wins.

I really don't think she is relevant at all to the results of elections. The Dems are now looking like they will flip a massive amount of seats in the house (40). Do you think they would have flipped 50 or 60 without her? And if you think GOP attack ads were drowned out by Trump hatred, what do you think that will mean for 2020? Trump is not getting any smarter.

The prospect of Speaker Pelosi in an electoral environment where democrats in tight races promised to prevent it from happening isn't as much for Republicans to work with as the reality of Speaker Pelosi might turn out to be in 2020.

For your own sake, stay the hell out of the prediction business.

Possibly, but that would probably be more relevant for the 2022 midterms. In 2020 the presidential race will drown everything else out.

Typical Democrat. Thinking Nationally when local is where it all begins.
