If we draft Barkley in the fourth, I think everyone is going to start blowing the Chiefs saying we killed the draft.

Based upon the first 3 rounds of the draft, it sure looks like every GM in the NFL agrees: THERE ARE NO ELITE QUARTERBACKS IN THE DRAFT THIS YEAR.

Given that, the only choice Andy Reid had was to get the best free agent quarterback available. The Alex Smith haters on Chiefsplanet insist that Alex Smith is simply Matt Cassel Part Deux, but I find that hard to believe. Cassel elevated suckage to an art form. Alex Smith looked a helluva lot better the last two years than Cassel ever did.

The fact is that there weren't any Drew Brees type free agents out there. So Dorsey and Reid are putting together the best roster they can under the circumstances.

How about waiting before the new Chiefs actually hold a practice, play a game, or even play a full season before you declare Andy Reid to be 7 years past his prime and you give up on the Chiefs altogether? It's fine to be a fan and to examine and criticize what the team is doing, but there's a hell of a lot of people on this forum who aren't nearly as smart as they think they are.

Thank God we at least don't have to read all of the pillowbiter postings about the Chocolate Penii any more.
Reid has always been over rated.

I don't really care that every GM and talent evaluator has this QB class rated so poorly, I would rather have taken a chance with a couple of these QBs early than trade for Smith.

Don't know who did best, or worst, but just a quick glance of picks, and I really like the Eddie Lacy pick by the Pack.

There has to be something with his shoulder that is scaring people away. He would have been a top 10 pick last year if he declared (bet he regrets that choice now).

Everyone can say all they want about how "bad" these QBs are... have those people taken a recent look at the Chiefs depth chart?

1) Alex Smith - 29 years old, injury prone, bottom half of the league QB
2) Chase Daniel - how many times has he been cut?
3) Ricky Stanzi - why is he still in the league?

I'm not impressed with this draft at all.

I get the Fisher pick. Who else was it going to be? Someone at the same position.

So we have our RT for this year - lateral move, Winston wasn't exactly holding this team back.

Then we pick a blocking TE, like we don't have enough of those, when we desperately need an ILB to play next to DJ and watched them all go bye bye with the last one, Arthur Brown, going to the Ravens who were a whopping 1 pick ahead of us at the time after trading up with the Seahawks. Solid!

And with the final pick we got our new Hillis that cant hold on to the ball or stay on the field.

I don't think the Jets situation for Geno Smith is as bad as most do.

They hired Marty Morningweg(sp) as OC, and I think he's going to be good not only for Geno, bit I could see Mark Sanchez make a big leap, as well.

Kelce isn't a blocking TE. He's a stud athlete in the mold of the modern TEs. He can easily line up at WR.

So in what seems to be the scheme of things... Kelce = Vernon Davis.. Knile Davis = ... Frank Gore..?

It's the worst situation possible. The Jets care about headlines for ANY reason. They are like a Kardashian. Rex hasn't been able to develop a QB. If Smith, by some stroke of luck, ever does get a start - the media is going to kill him.

I don't like the Jets situation for Geno because of Rex Ryan. He's a louder version of Romeo in terms of how he handles players. Geno needs a tough coach who isn't going to coddle him and can maybe adjust his attitude a little bit. He's not going to get that in New York and he's going to have a media that is going to shine a big spotlight on him and bait him into saying anything they can print. If he was visibly pissed off about the green room, how will he respond when he sits behind Sanchez for some time?

To me, the ideal place for him would have been Cleveland.

Yet, for as poorly as Mark Sanchez has played overall since he came into the NFL, almost all the criticism for the Jets until this last year has been directed at either Mike Tannebaum or Rex Ryan.

Think about it.

How much has the media spotlight been directed at Sanchez, really?

I don't like Ryan all that much, but he's actually done an outstanding job of deflecting criticism away from Sanchez, and now they've hired an OC that has some history with QBs.

Agreed.

If anything, it just shows how smart Reid/Dorsey were to go out and get a QB so we didn't have to endure another horrific year like we just did.

can anyone show me this extension Alex Smith has signed? Anyone?

God forbid we trade for a stopgap using a pick that literally has a 30% success rate the past decade.

Someone go find 10 pro bowlers in the last 10 years that were selected between picks 30 and 40.

GO GO GO GO GO

That's certainly a reasonable position. I actually agree with the second part of it.

But some guys around here are saying "**** the Chiefs" and they're telling us how they'll become fans of whatever team drafts Geno Smith. I've read your posts long enough to know that you're not jumping off the deep end like they are.

I guess we'll find out in the next few years if Andy Reid is overrated. I'm hoping he's not.

I think he's done okay deflecting criticism from Sanchez and I agree you need some of that to guard against the sharks in New York. But what I see in Sanchez is an uninspired, coddled player who needs a fire lit under his ass. That's Ryan's rep not just with Sanchez, but with everyone. He's too much of a player's coach.
