Actually, up until recently, it was relatively easy to get a CCW in Ventura County. I have friends that have CCW's and live in Ventura.

It’s a conservative bar in SoCal. Somebody, a college kid, in a photo in the aftermath was wearing a Reagan t-shirt. Could be politically motivated, who knows.

Surprised there was not a person with a concealed handgun, though I recall at most clubs they have a wand to check for weapons and the first victim was the bouncer.

CCW is worthless if the club bouncer wands you down to check for weapons. Lot of cowboys, military, college kids frequent the bar. There’s been a few fights and incidents there but nothing of this magnitude

I think there is something to the psychotropic drugs these ex soldiers are prescribed.
My Dad was a WWll vet and he would talk about guys nervous from the service. He worked at TWA with many wwIl vets and one of his good friend and co workworker I'm pretty sure suffered a form of it. They would work on cars together and even formed a chapter of National Campers and Hikers association. We would go on campouts and me my bro and sis always kinda were nervous around him or being kids would laugh about him. That really pissed off dad. He sat us down scolded us and told don't judge what you don't know he is just a bit nervous from the service. His friend was figity nervous kinda hyper blinked and stuttered talked fast and kinda broken. Had a limp like one leg was shorter than other.
When he died after my dad had passed I represented my family at his viewing and funeral. I discovered he was a Marine and landed on many the Islands in the Pacific during the war. He received many services e awards and a purple heart along with honorable discharge due to injuries he suffered in battle. Dad never even told us his friend saw action. I always felt bad that as a kid we would laugh and make fun of him. I'm sure he had a form of ptsd.

They'd been to his house on a "disturbance" call. When they arrived he was "agitated." They called in some sort of mental heath "crisis team," who responded. Eventually, they concluded there was no danger, and they left. End of story.

An armed sheriff's deputy tried to stop him. The shooter blew him away.

I do not disagree, just pointing out that CCW is not impossible in some areas of California (contrary to popular belief).

More than ten rounds. So he could blow away lots of college kids before having to stop and reload.

It's good that some counties are better than others, although it sucks that it's still up to them, not the citizen.

As bad as Illinois is, and it does suck, it's also a "will issue" state. The burden is on them to prove you can't have a gun; in California the burden is on the citizen to prove that he needs one.

There were a whole lot of people in that bar who needed one. They just didn't know it.

Bad situation, charging into a situation like that. The shooter's going to be looking at the door and the uniform kind of screams "I'm armed."

A concealed carry holder who's already there can immediately respond without presenting an obvious threat to the killer before he does.

So there was already a law and he did it anyway.............shocking!

This is a prime example of why laws like that are a complete joke. Anyone crazy enough to go shoot up a bar, isn't going to give two shits about some hokey mag law.

They wouldn’t get in the bar. The bouncer wands you down for weapons before you go in to pay. First two victims were the bouncer and then the cash register lady.
