Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

^ that's the 1911 I'm eyeing.

seems good for the price; and I could use the left over $ I would've spent on a Kimber Custom II or Springfield Loaded on a fun .22 plinker; or something else etc.

I really don't think "cheap" and "1911" go together very well. They can be very twitchy. My $800 STI needed about $300 worth of additional work to make it competition ready.

Now were cooking with coal.
If you like the Walker but thinks its just a lil to big, check out a 2nd or 3rd model Dragoon. But you have the best model of the era in the New Army. Walkers are great & I own two, you have to aim way low, they are a 75-100 yard hand gun & were the most powerful handgun on earth until the creation of the 357 mag.

Nice to see some else has crossed over to the dark-side. It can be a very cold & lonely place at times.

Yea that's the reason to pick up a Walker is because it is the 75-100 yard gun. Half the fun especially with the sights!

Is Uberti really the only game in town? I hear rumor bits about a Colt Blackpowder shop?? Do they do BP too now? That would be cool to get a real Colt.

Hahah hey once you go black you never go back right??? Actually it would be kinda fun to load up an an AR with black powder cartridges! Sure it doesn't have the same power but you can shoot and generate your own smoke screen! Perfect defensive weapon right???

One cool thing is that I came close to getting sequential serial numbers with them. Only 5 serials apart. Would have been ideal to get sequential but unlikely without a 'packaged pair'.

Colt made what was called the Colt signature series & 2nd Signature Series, They are all Italian parts. The family that now owns Henry put together the 2nd series as far as I know. I stick with Uberti or Pietta. I do own a Walker made by San Marcos. but we dnt shoot that one. She's just for look-en at

It's been a while since I've been shooting BP, but really I think more people want to do it and if someone started making cost effective paper cartridges again to make loading easier I'd bet more people would pick it up! Really the only downside is the time it takes to load!

But for retro coolness you have to love to coal burners!

I roll my own loads using Zig-Zags. Screw doing that out shooting. Not fun. I use a drill bit thats a lil smaller than the chambers to roll the zag. twist up 1 end & dump 35 grains of powder. If you use triple 7 back the guns max load off by at least 7%

The Taurus is more the low end of mid-range than cheap. Though I'd spend the extra $200ish and get a Kimber Custom II.

I didn't realize STI was making $800 guns.

It's a Spartan, which is their low end model. I bought a competition version from Dawson Precision. The more expensive STIs are manufactured in Texas; the Spartan is manufactured in the Philippines and quality checked in Texas. I figured I'd save myself a little money by getting that instead of the Trojan, which ran about $300 more, but it was a mistake. Had feeding and ejecting issues right out of the box. Needless to say I was pissed.

After $300 worth of gunsmithing work it's awesome now, but in hindsight I should have paid the extra money up front and got the Trojan instead.

1 more lil trick CrazyPhuD
The golf industries has spent billions over the years perfecting golf balls. Their is a reason those balls have all those dimples on them. Who am I to argue?
I take the small Pringles potato chip can & put about a dozen balls in it & shake it all to hell or until my round balls have dimples like a golf ball. It will shrink groups on all round balls
