How about the player of the same position on the opposing team? That seems a lot fairer. I know it would never happen, but that would stop the targeting of QBs and the other teams best playmakers.

Yeah, as it stands there really isn't any incentive to not take these shots. Fines and a 15 yd penalty are acceptable risks if you can knock a key guy out of the game.

That hit could have ended his season. The baby push was clearly unsportsman like conduct, but nobody is getting injured on that push.

So with the two, 15 yard penalties the ball stays in the same spot. True, Miami got a first down out of it, but it was first and 25 and that ended the drive.

15 yards for a helmet hit to the jaw and 15 yards for a baby push.

This shouldnt even have been a flag, let alone a suspension.

I don't understand people saying it shouldn't have been a flag. It was targeting a defenseless player's head with the crown of the helmet.

Meh, his team didn't so much as have his back; I'm not sure the NFL will either.

Yeah...you re right it should have been a flag, but what you state isn t exactly the reason. Its not that Moore was defenseless, its that Dupree lined him up and hit him 3 yards outside the tackle box helmet to helmet. I believe the rule was passed in 2012.

QBs should have some responsibility to protect themselves.

That is like the Trent Green hit in that opening day loss to Cincinnati where Geathers nearly killed him because Trent Green was skipping and hopping and blowing bubbles as if he was not on a tackle football field with grown men.

Or when Troy Aikman somehow thought he was going to turn the corner on Lavar Arrington before Arrington became a disappointment.

I expect Pittsburgh and the Chiefs to try to lay some hard shots early Sunday and Pittsburgh is going to have more borderline dirty plays, since the Chiefs play clean to avoid penalties, but I hope our guys are smart enough to avoid getting lit up like Matt Moore.

Yeah, you could see it coming the whole way. I kind of attribute it to Moore not playing a lot at full speed. As I watching the play, I was thinking, "Dude, get rid of it" and it was obvious that he was waiting too long.

It doesn't excuse him getting hit in the face, of course, but it was obvious that he was making a choice to get lit up.

It was Helmet-to-Helmet spearing.

It should have been flagged and Dupree should have been fined, at the very least.

I agree. I remember watching the Patriots SNF opener against Arizona and my first impression of Jimmy Garoppolo was that he was a very capable QB that was not doing enough to protect himself from the pass rushers. I was not surprised that he did not last the full 4 games of the Brady suspension.
I really thought Garoppolo was going to get injured sooner or later. If he joins another team and becomes a starter, he better learn real quick.

I think avoiding punishment is part of the job. Russell Wilson had some tough injuries this year, but he does a great job of protecting himself in and out of the pocket.
