The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

For argument sakes a top 15 left tackle is asked to move to guard. Yeah I think the reaction would be universal in the league with the same reaction that Albert has. Especially being known they want to replace you with a rookie. Different story if the team is trading for a Hall Famer like the Chiefs did with Roaf and Tait slide over, of course he was out the first time he could. I know there was Peterson hate on that, but he took left tackle money from the Bears. Any player or agent knows going from left tackle to guard, is like an ace starting pitcher going to be a middle reliever in pay scale.

Champ Bailey is likely going to be in the discussion to be in the Hall of Fame someday. For me, he's the 2nd best corner of my generation, right behind Deion.

It is, but I was told the Chiefs were at one point willing to pay him in late January slightly over what Ben Grubbs received, which was a 5 year 36 million dollar deal. With incentives, it would have averaged just about what Jake Long ended up signing for.

I would say that the guard contracts signed lately are right on par with LT's deals. Nicks, Mankins, Levitre all got paid.

I would imagine it's because his source is an office worker of some kind who isn't high enough up to get canned with the regime changes.
