A (very short) Christmas fable.
Once there was a man imprisoned by horrible goblins. They forced him to work all year for no pay, and kept his wife as a hostage when they sent him abroad for his annual business trip. He was terribly old and tired, and just wanted to die...but the vicious little men wouldn't let him.
