Saw The Island last nite
It's big, loud and chock full of chase scenes. It looks like a music video/fashion spread.
The surface has been contaminated and the survivors are forced to live in this enormous underground complex run by none other that Borimir from the Lord of the Rings. Or so they have been told. The only place on the surface is safe is 'The Island' and the undground dwellers have a chance to go to The Island through seemingly random Lottery. Lincoln Echo Six (Mcgregor) starts to ponder why they live the way they do. Basically everything they do is monitored and he wants to know why. he asks questions like why can't I have bacon when I want? Why can't I have any other clothes besides the white 'uniforms' everyone but the 'guards' are wearing? Why are we really underground? Well this is troubling to Sean Beans character. Later in the movie we find out why - hint the lottery is rather sinister and well the island itself isn't all it's cracked up to be. Anyway Lincoln discovers the truth to some extent and takes off with Johansens character to discover the whole truth about the island and the outside world. I didn't buy the whole 'smart' Michael Bay movie as it's being touted but if you want lotsa big, loud, action, then this is the movie for you. |

It's basically a remake of Logan's run. That's all you gotta know.

FWIW, I WOULD like the see an updated version of Logan's Run... the original has definitely aged (very 70s "set-based" almost made for TV movie appearance). And, for the love of all that is holy, keep Michael Bay the hell away from the project!!!

Yet another reason to hate Michael Bay
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory...inment/3262868 NEW YORK -- Some Hollywood actresses are cautious about revealing too much skin but 20-year-old Scarlett Johansson had to be persuaded to keep her underwear on, according to her director in The Island, Michael Bay. Speaking before Monday's New York premier of the thriller, which stars Johansson and Ewan McGregor as human clones on the run, Bay said he was prepared for the usual actress nerves when it came to shooting a love scene between the two leads. "We're ready to go and of course the actress is not there," he told reporters. He said he was summoned to Johansson's trailer, expecting to have to reassure the star of Lost in Translation that her privacy and dignity would be protected. "She's standing there and she says, 'I'm not wearing this cheap ... bra. I'm going naked,'" Bay said. "I said, 'It's PG-13, you have to wear the bra,'" he said. Bay describes The Island -- which carries a PG-13 rating meaning it is suitable for children with parental guidance -- as a summer "popcorn movie," though the plot raises important ethical issues about science and the morality of cloning. The film by the director of Armageddon and The Rock is a change of direction for Johansson who has played a string of critically acclaimed roles in films such as Girl With a Pearl Earring and In Good Company |

And, it's sad to think this is the first movie Bay has done that was NOT produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
