Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

I don't know that and I'm sticking to my guns on this one. If he plays 16 games Alex Smith will throw 25 TDs.

If that's what you're doing with the pick, then the guy you're replacing him with had better be elite.
And if this good young player has let all the bulletin board posts go to his head and is asking for the moon for his second contract I guess you would just go ahead and suck him off and swallow, right?

There must be some reason no new contract has been hammered out by two different GMs, and I bet I can guess why.

Its a little of both. But he also missed a couple of games. He took a lot of "breathers" I would assume connected to the injury. But its just that, an assumption based on last years injury. He wants from all accounts #1 LT money. He hasn't exactly come out looking like a "team"guy. Point is we're not privy to a lot of things here. I hope we sign him long term and shake up our trade options for that #1. But if issues have developed with money, attitude, injuries, whatever...drafting a highly regarded technician who excels at pass protection, is younger and cheaper isn't a bad play. Is it ideal? No. But whats best for the team?

He won't because he's had his egg cracked twice already.

He will or he won't.

Period.

Agree or disagree?...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

If the whole !@#$ing draft class sucks, then you're right. Unless Brandon Albert gets traded for a 2nd and proceeds to outperform them all.

Because he's going to dump a known quantity that's a damn good player to make room for the guy he's about to draft. As such, that guy had better be really !@#$ing good to justify dumping Albert.
You're not asking the GM to do his job. You're asking him not to do his job because you want a QB.

We've gone back and forth on this in multiple threads. If the Chiefs think Smith is the answer, they should draft him. If they don't, they should avoid him. It's a simple and common sense thing, but you keep acting as if it's crazy talk.

Get over the QB thing.

25 in 16 games for the high dollar booz and if he gets injured and falls short because of that I'll buy you quart of beer.

His job is not to make marginal improvements to a 2-14 team with the #1 and #34 picks in the draft.

Alex Smith needs to be a top flight QB and 1.1 needs to be spent on a player that clearly makes us better than the 2-14 team from 2013. The end.
