I don't think there's any reason to rush into bumping either Smith or Flowers from the starting lineup in favor of Cooper, so I agree with you there.
Do you think Cooper's been better than Smith when he's been on the field? Per snap points values would suggest he has been and by a fair amount.

I don't - Smith's been a friggen lock down CB. He's been good enough that teams are going after Cooper instead. Remember, PFF doesn't award a point on every play. If a QB simply stops looking Smith's way and attacks Cooper, Smith won't earn any 'points', or at least very few. He'll get a 0.0 for virtually any throw that doesn't come his direction because 0.0 is considered average and not getting thrown to because of solid coverage is 'average' for an NFL DB.

I don't think that's how PFF grading really works. The CB gets a grade on every play whether the ball comes his way or not. Certainly there may be more scoring potential on a play that comes your way, but that is both positive and negative scoring potential.

I don't watch the CBs closely enough on every play to have a strong opinion about which player has been doing a better job. Both have been very good.

Nope.

Take a look at the grading section. On most of those plays, especially for DBs, no grade is given. It's hard for the graders to determine a 'victory'.

On a 'normal' play for a DB, they get a 0.0 - if the throw doesn't come there way, that's going to be considered a normal play almost every single time.

I met Cooper last night. Seems like a very humble kid.

The thing that stands out is he's tall but not much on his frame. That kid is going going to get stronger and learn the position and be even better. Thats ridiculous upside folks.

Seems reasonable to me for a set of receivers like Denver's. If some other team had a short, quick guy on the outside and a tall, post-up guy in the slot, I might switch things around though.

Smith has been our best CB this year. I think the sample size with Cooper is too small.

I'll look, and I can understand a grade of 0.0 on many/most plays that go away from a CB, but if a guy gets obviously beat or knocks his receiver down at the line of scrimmage, I'll be surprised if I find that they don't get a grade.

Right. My point was in reference to the comment about Cooper bumping Flowers from the starting lineup. I'm saying it shouldn't be an either/or thing because they shouldn't be playing the same position, anyway.

Get rid of Lewis and find a real hatchet man back there and yes we are on that level but Lewis intimidates no one. Are there any other safeties on the depth chart/practice squad that show some promise ?? Besides he is soft and gets hurt too often.

I'd put Lewis in the "could be upgraded" category, but not in the "needs replaced" category.

We have a lot of money tied up in Berry and Flowers. It's great that we have a guy playing at a high level for peanuts.

I'll take Cooper at $400k versus Carr at $10,000,000 per.

Cooper will be starting since they moved Flowers to Nickel- so I guess we will hopefully see a lot more big plays this weekend!!

I don't think so. Not that it matters much since they play with 5 dbs so much these days, but I'll be surprised if Flowers isn't still the starter in the base defense. Cooper didn't start last week even though Flowers seemed to be covering the slot in nickel situations.
