There is luck when everybody pitches. The best determinant of how a pitcher executed is where they located the pitches. Once it leaves their hand the rest is up to chance.

That pitch that Crow threw to Bourn is a great example. It was a low fastball, designed to get him to chase after it, smash it into the ground and prevent the runner at third from scoring. He threw a good pitch in a good spot, but Bourn just dropped the bat head on it.

I know its a broken record, but this game is on Yost. When a lefty starter gets pulled, you dont replace him with another lefty.

Dude, it's common sense that there is luck involved when anyone pitches. The point that we are discussing is whether Chen is luckier than the average MLB pitcher, and i will concede that fact.

Chen survives, seemingly, on smoke and mirrors. Reminds me of the kids that are called "fireball" in little league because they can barely get the ball to the plate.

He had, roughly, a 7 ERA in his last 100 innings before coming to KC. And I'm always waiting for this same version of Bruce Chen to reaffirm his reality, but it doesn't happen.

Limited Ks, a fair amount of BBs, and spotty location. Yet he gets modest results.

The thing is, is that Chen also has a little bit of talent or else he couldn't pitch to MLB hitters like he has and get away with it on more than a few occasion's.

No one in MLB is luckier than average. That's the entire point of "regression to the mean". In a small sample size, such as half a season, people can be luckier than average. Chen has been incredibly lucky in the first half, and was luckier still this evening. But over his entire career, he's no more or less lucky than anyone else.
