Football AFC West - Week 16

Denver 8-6 / 3-2 / 6-4 / @ Bills vs Chiefs
Raiders 7-7 / 2-2 / 5-5 / @ KC vs Chargers
Chargers 7-7 / 2-3 / 6-4 / @ Lions @ Raiders
Chiefs 6-8 / 2-2 / 3-7 / vs Raiders @ Broncos

First glance ...

Chargers have the toughest road to rally (yes, I realize the Chiefs are 6-8), but with 3 division losses already and their remaining games are road games, starting in Detroit. I think it's going to be too late for them this time around. I was very surprised at how poorly the Ravens played, but it happens... I don't see SD winning at Detroit though. So, it's very likely all over for them if they lose.

Chiefs host the Raiders... the loser of this one can pretty much say "Adios Mofo" to the playoffs. It's in KC and at this time of year, that's just not a place you want to be playing football. I think the Chiefs will win this one, especially if they play like they did yesterday. However, I think it will be a pretty entertaining game.

Broncos travel to the Bills... the Bills were hot early at 5-2, but they have lost 7 straight games. This is by no means a slam dunk for Denver, they haven't earned the right to think any game is a gimme... but, if they play as they have been and the defense erases the Patriot game quickly from their memory... Denver should be able to win this one.

What will happen...

I think the Chiefs defeat the Raiders and the Lions defeat the Chargers. Raiders and Chargers will be 7-8 overall and needing help that the likes of Tebow couldn't even summon.

Chiefs would move to 7-8 as well, 3-2 in the division... moving up to 2nd place, behind Denver.

If Denver defeats the Bills... they're 9-6 and winners of the division, making Week 17 meaningless. (should SD and OAK both lose, that is).

If Denver loses at the Bills... they're 8-7 with a 3-2 record, having already won in KC. This makes the Week 17 game worth everything, because if KC could win in Denver... they tie Denver at 8-8, but would surpass them with a 4-2 divisional record.

So, that's just one scenario... but, either way - I do think we'll have a meaningful week 17 game with Denver hosting KC.

Soooo... this week, we need the Broncos, Lions and Chiefs to win... those are the only 3 games I'm concerned with - nothing else matters. And, yes, I typed 'we need' on a Chiefs' board.

The Denver/Buffalo game is virtually impossible to predict. There's so many unknowns in the game. Has Buffalo given up, or are they due? I do think the Lions will find a way to win against SD. Oak/KC is a toss-up to me.

I'm waiting for confirmation... but, I read something that alluded to the fact that if Denver and KC win this week (no matter what SD does), then Denver wins the division.

There's a very good chance that POS Marion Barber ends up costing KC the division title by running out of bounds at Pile High. Of course you can also say genius Haley starting Falco so many games did the trick.

They will. Denver and SD would be the only teams possible of 9 wins and Denver wins the tie breaker between them and SD.

Don't forget Cassels screen pass interception against the Chargers.

This is shaping up to be quite the divisional race of absolute suck. Neither team has done enough to deserve playoffs IMHO. But this is the sysetm we have and its really not that bad of a system. (every division ensured a spot)

I do not want the Chargers to rally into the playoffs. However I am not so sure they lose to Detroit. Really don't want to see Denver in the playoffs either, but I would rather they go than SD. The Denver / Buffalo game is going to be close. It will be a hard game to predict.

I think it would be a riot if all 4 teams ended 8-8. Would that be historic? Would the Chiefs really win the division with all the Tie Breakers?

This could be a very interesting end to the season. Of course it could all blow up this weekend.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with KC being 6-8 2 weeks after that CHI/DEN game...

It's funny what a difference 1 game makes... many here are also singing the praises of Orton, a QB that many of those same people lambasted for years.

Injuries primarily killed KC's season...
