Q&A with BRODIE CROYLE - 8/27

Q&A with BRODIE CROYLE - 8/27

Aug 27, 2008, 2:02:28 PM

Q: Most players don’t play much during the last preseason game, but with a young team is there a different perspective?

BRODIE CROYLE: “There is, you know we want to go out there and have a good showing. We want the first team try and go out there and get some points when we have the ball. We need to get some confidence going into the next week to get ready for the season opener.”

Q: Is the primary goal in this preseason game ‘don’t get hurt?’

CROYLE: “No. You can’t play like that. If you start playing to not get hurt, that’s usually when you get hurt. We’re going to go out there, and whether we get one series or three series, we’re going to go out there and try to score points. Whatever means necessary.”

Q: How important is it for the offense to have a good showing after last week?

CROYLE: “Obviously last week isn’t what we wanted to do. We wanted to go out there, score some points and win the game. It didn’t work out that way, but we’ve corrected the things we did wrong, and we just have to go out and play. We’re still confident; we still think we’re going to be a good offense, so we’re not down on ourselves.”

Q: Do you feel bad about that game?

CROYLE: “You know, for that night and that day we kind of did. But we’re back to where we need to be. It might have been good for us as a young team, we might have thought too much of ourselves after the first two weeks. So it might have been good for us.”

Q: Do you anticipate playing more tomorrow night that you normally would in the fourth preseason game?

CROYLE: “I would imagine that would depend on how we do on the first series. If we go out there and do what we’re supposed to do, I would imagine we get one or two series. But if not we’ll probably keep going.”

Q: Do you know the name of the cup that you’re playing for?

CROYLE: “Governor’s Cup. I’m all over it, man.”

Q: Have you guys been asked to maybe play a little bit more tomorrow?

CROYLE: “We don’t think we’re that far off of it. We’ll play as much as they want us to play. If they want us to play a series or they want us to play a quarter. No matter how long you’re out there, you want to go out there and move the ball and score points. If we can get on track and get going on one drive, then that will be it.”

Q: Do you think you’re ready for the regular season?

CROYLE: “Yeah. We feel good about where we’re at. We feel good about what we’ve done in the preseason. Last week wasn’t what we wanted, but you’re going to get that sometimes. We feel good and we’re ready to start the season.”

Q: You have a lot of young receivers. Does that require you to talk a little more?

CROYLE: “That’s what this is all about. We’re all just trying to get on the same page. We’re all trying to get more and more familiar with each other. We’ve had a good camp, we feel good about it. We feel good about the offense and everything that’s going on. So it’s just going to be a matter of us continuing to build on what we’ve done and get better every week.”

Q: Do you have a good report with the young receivers, being young yourself?

CROYLE: “That’s my job. I make sure everyone is in the right spot. If you’re running the wrong depth, the wrong route, then as an offense you’re not going to click. That’s the thing about offense; everybody’s got to be doing the same thing. Defense can get away with a couple busts here and there. Offense you can’t. So we’re trying to limit as many mistakes as possible.”

Q: Are they doing that less, your young receivers?

CROYLE: “Yeah. They’re getting better and better. We know we’re going to get man coverage and we just have to beat it.”

Q: Was that a problem last year? Was there some miscommunication?

CROYLE: “There was some miscommunication. Some on my end, some on theirs. But that’s the good thing about preseason; it doesn’t count. It’s basically a glorified practice. We come back in the film room and correct it.”

Q: What about former Chiefs QB Trent Green coming back to Arrowhead?

CROYLE: “What about Trent? I don’t know, (QB) Damon (Huard) said he talked to him. I think he said he’s going to start. So he gets to play at Arrowhead again.”

Q: How do you feel the offensive line has come along?

CROYLE: “It’s coming along great. They’ve filled in very well. (T) Herb (Taylor) has had a great preseason. Obviously we’re anxious to get (T) Brandon (Albert) back, but I feel very comfortable standing back there with whoever’s in there.”

I really enjoy it when the interviewer asks the same question 3 times.

They are so scared to ask the tough questions... The only one that gets close is Claytons dream girl Rhonda...

Other than that, they swing from Carls and Herms nut sack...

What about me?

Even I could ask better questions than that.

Bittersweet. Part of you wants to see our old leader look/perform well, but part of you wants to see Dorsey knock him down. I know the Chiefs player respect him a lot (the few that were on the 2006 squad - a rapidly diminishing number...)

2 or 3 series.

He should be playing all 4 quarters, IMO.

Yeah, I was hoping he'd play longer than 2 or 3 series.
