Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

The 4 hour, 40 minute international version of John Woo's epic Red Cliff is superior to the 2 hour, 30 minute U.S. cut.

Just watched a film called Wonderful World, with Matthew Broderick and Michael K. Wiliams (Omar from The Wire). It had potential, the heart is in the right place, but the screenplay is sort of middling and the film gets a bit too sentimental. Pretty average drama.

I still have the Invention of Lying to watch. I've had it for awhile, but just haven't been able to bring myself to put it in. Sent back Blood Diamond (loved it) and The Goonies. I'll be getting The Haunting and The Boys Are Back. Yeah, I'm getting a scary movie. Guys I talk to at a bar I go to say it's one of their favorite movies, and that it's not really that scary. We'll see about that...lol.

Julie and Julia. I liked that one. Meryl was, indeed, really good. The character of Julie was kind of annoying, but cute.

I just finished "The Fall"...directed by Tarsem Singh. Instantly in my top 10 movies of the last 5 or so years.

I cannot begin to describe how amazing this movie is.....not to mention the acting performance by the little girl in it.

For those not in the know....Tarsem is the director of the movie "The Cell"...a decent flick with Vince Vaughn and J-Lo.... If you've seen that film...you have a good idea of what the man can do with amazing imagery.

Before "The Cell"...he became famous (sort of) for directing R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" video.

Anyways.....I cant think of any other movie (besides "The Cell") with this type of imagery.....maybe The Robin Williams afterlife movie "What Dreams May Come".

Maybe I would describe it as a cross between "The Cell" (imagery) and "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen".

If you get a chance....check it out

The imagery in The Fall is nothing short of spectacular. It is a Blu-ray show-off piece to be sure. It is a fun movie; the story that Lee Pace's character tells always reminds me of a Dungeon & Dragons quest as played and written by kids.

True story: the filmmakers tricked the little girl into thinking that what was going on with Lee Pace was actually happening. She was only part-acting the whole time.

Nothing about Valkerie? I am watching it now. Pretty good flick so far. Lots of build up. Of course, we all know how it ended.

I think I commented on it before. I found it pretty amusing but not as good as I had expected from the writers of The Office and Extras. Still worth a watch so long as you are not particularly religious.

Hitler dies in a theater?

I though it was better than I had expected and it has a great supporting cast of excellent British and European actors.

That was a really cool movie. I think he took things a little too far, I mean it's not like he was raised on an deserted island the pacific and all of a sudden introduced to society.

But I know the feeling.

Have you read the Krakauer book it was based on? It flushes out a bit more about McCandless and his different take on things.

I've never read the book but like I said the only downfall I found with the movie was his abrupt change from the dorms in college to isolationism. The director could have worked on that a bit more. The guy was obviously personable. I don't know, it was just too sudden of a change for me to take in without a little skepticism. But that's OK too, not a bad movie at all just one of the things I seemed to hover on.

'Cashback' is one of my top 5 favorite movies. And this is coming from a guy who only 'Goodfellas', 'The Godfather" and 'The Departed' are the few that rank above.

That movie was pure brilliance. Funny, artsy, and just plain cool
