The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

I think they want to trade down. I got money that says Albert is out LT next season and if we do pic Fisher 1 overall he will be playing RT and if they cant reach an agreement with Albert next offseason he will move to LT

If Dorsey has no intentions of trading Albert then drafting a LT at 1.1 would not make very good sense. If next offseason we have Albert and Fisher we will lose Albert and get nothing in return. Otherwise we have totally blown a 1.1 on a RT.

Albert is clearly not Dwayne Bowe, in putting his head down, signing and playing out the tag.

Albert has been vocal on twitter, NFL Network and anywhere he can cry about his contract, long term security, etc. He's completely different from a guy like Bowe, that is obvious. That's the type of person he is. You didnt see Bowe last year talking to other teams under the franchise tag or taking physicals with other teams only to be laughed at for contract demands. Bowe was under lock and key under that tag, nobody was talking to him. Whether a smoke screen or not. Albert has a really high asking price for his value. Albert, knowing how much he has left, is looking for a HUGE payday right now. Bowe was just looking to be paid based on his production with crappy QBs over the years.

That is the difference. Albert probably wont even show until week 1. We will spend all training camp with a 2nd stringer playing LT, then Albert will sign right before the season starts or in the final week of preseason and what, people just think hes going to be in NFL game ready shape ready to protect our almost 30 year old injury prone QB? fat chance.

It really shouldn't be that hard to get atleast a second in a trade down and still stay in the top 10.

I said i believe they want to keep Albert, but if his price doesnt come down, they probably wont. Then we will have scrubs at LT.

yea how dare I think a top 5 rated LT in his draft class that we wasted a 3rd round pick on or the top rated guard in his draft class we wasted a 2nd round pick on that played tackle in college would stick at RT.

how dare that doesnt matter, getting value out of highly rated draft picks at their respective positions coming out.

Exactly. It's the NFL. Guys aren't buddy buddy anyway. It's a job. If the team wins they'll be happier than if they lose. But nobody in the front office should give a squirt about bad attitudes when they're 1-year from FA. Albert is going to play and play hard for that big contract. He'll be fine this year.

Here is my dilemma with this scenario. If we spend the 1.1 on Joeckel (or Fisher) to be our LTotF, then why would you move them to the RT position? That would seem detrimental to the development of your future LT.

Albert should go to the RT position IMO if this plays out. And Albert has said he does not want to go RT. Probably because he knows the RT position does not make as much if he is let go at the end of next season.

If you can't get Albert traded before the draft.....then go into the draft assuming that Albert will play under the franchise tag (which he more than likely will to make that $9 million). Draft like you already have a LT. If after this season....you can't get him signed....then either pick up a LT in FA or ****ing draft one. Or God forbid....find out this season if Stephenson or Allen can play LT. They both ****ing did it in college.

They royally ****ed up the Alex Smith decision and destroyed their draft leverage in the process. This is absolutely akin to what Pioli did in 2009.

I'm done speculating at this point - the bottom line is that Dorsey and Reid had better !@#$ing figure it out because this is unquestionably a mess of their own making. They had a franchise LT on the roster and a chance to take the best developmental QB in the draft.

Now they're looking at a roster surplus at one position with holes at others and they're down a 2nd rounder on account of it. They've filled spots with guys like Mike DeVito who serve no purpose in the modern NFL. So now they're limited on 1.1 because nobody truly believes Floyd is an option and they're up against the cap so they're trying to figure out what to do to free up space via Albert.

Oh sure, they've made moves. They've spent some money. But I'm far from convinced that they've spent it well.

The Chiefs have as much cap space as just about anyone in the league. If we aren't willing/able to sign Albert, who is?
