Looking for a good juicer

Anybody here use juicers? I've become interested in them as of late as a way to jump start getting back to being healthy.

I get home from work generally in the middle of the night, and catch an infomercial on a juicer that is compact and can pulverize anything you put in it, but I didn't catch the name of the product. Anyone know the name of this thing, or use one they really like?

If you want something that will chop anything, the Ninja is fine (even excels at it). But if you want to make a smoothie with that super fine texture, it simply cannot compare to a Vitamix. And the build quality is notably better with the Vitamix.

I Love my Vitamix, and nothing compares at the end of the day.

Couldn't agree more. The Ninja commercials piss me off.

Yeah, the Ninja leaves chunks of spinach/kale in it. Overall the smoothies are still tasty, but not the smoothest of smoothies.

I've never seen a Vitamix in action, but I've heard good reports. That said, my Ninja does very well with smoothies. Unpeeled apples, kale, carrots, etc. I'm getting a nice smooth texture. Isn't Vitamix around $500?

My green smoothie in the Vitamix is pineapple, green grapes, baby spinach, ice, water, and flaxseeds. It's awesome and so smooth.

I recently started juicing because my roommate does it all the time. I'm actually really surprised by how much better I sleep and how I weirdly don't get road rage like I used to. That's a totally unforeseen result.

Sounds tasty.

My go-to might be too much - 1/4 to 1/2 cup of the following: strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries, a banana, small handful of baby spinach, scoop of peanut butter, and some protein powder. Yummy, and definitely fills me up. But is that too much?

Not sure what you mean by too much... and is that 1/4 to 1/2 cup of EACH, or in all? Of each, that's a lot. You've got double creaminess going on with the banana and the peanut butter, so you could probably cut back on one or both and have the same flavor and creaminess aspects. I've only got about 200 grams of fruit, 30 or so grams of spinach, and a couple teaspoons of flax seeds.

I use the pineapple because citrus is especially effective at cutting the flavor of the greens, and I go for the spinach because it's pretty mild to begin with.

EDIT: And how does the Ninja do with the blackberries? Do you still have seeds?

Well I'm on day 2 of it, and so far so good. I added to much red bell pepper to one, but that's just a lesson learned.

So who knows, maybe someday I'll get Vitamix too. It's the price of two Chiefs games, and I'm thinking the juicing and/or smoothie might do more for my health.

But I've been lifting for 35 years and if there's one thing you have to get used to with anything to do with health and your body - there's going to be some learning and pain associated with it...

not sure if this has been mentioned, but the infomercial the OP probably saw was the NutriBullet. like the MagicBullet, it pulverizes and, according to the infomercial, emulsifies everything put in it. now i don't know what emulsification is but that was scientific enough for me to get it for the holidays.

considered a "nutrition extractor" rather than a juicer or blender, this thing is quick, compact and easy to clean. really amazing. i'd get the larger NutriBullet 900, which might run you a little more than a $100 at Kohls with one of their regular 30 percent coupons.

The cleaning part, to me, will remain a huge consideration.

FWIW, the Vitamix is quite easy to clean. The blender mechanism is all one piece, so you're not dealing with gaskets or separate pieces to take apart and put back together. If you'll clean it immediately after using it, you fill it halfway with water, put a little squirt of liquid dish shop in it, blend it on medium high for 30 seconds, and rinse. It's very simple.
