Your not the only one that has said Marshall would be great but would turn us down. I'm no expert and know he is very well paid in Wichita but we could offer him a decent raise playing in a major conference with a better recruiting base at a larger school with better facilities. Would he turn us down simply because he will probably get a chance at one of the bigger name programs or is there another reason that I'm not aware of

If you're a guy like Marshall, Smart, or Brad Stevens, you're a made man on campus and you're only leaving for about one of 5-10 jobs:
Syracuse Indiana UNC Duke Kentucky Kansas Michigan St. Florida Connecticut Arizona The last three are in italics because they are more recent powers. I just can't see Marshall or Smart leaving for anything less than one of those jobs. Missouri is a better opportunity than VCU or Wichita State because it has better resources, but along with those come expectations, and the gap between the MU job and WSU isn't large enough for Marshall to risk the move. If he fails at MU he likely goes back to the Valley. If he stays at WSU, he makes seven figures for the next 15 years. If he goes to a power school he has nearly unlimited resources and a school that recruits itself. The risk of taking a job like MU is too big compared to the reward for a guy like Marshall. The only way you can make that difference up is by offering him so much jack he can't say no...and when has Missouri ever done that for a coach?

Hell, Stevens was offered IU's job before TC and he turned it down.
Shaka is going to have to strike eventually while the iron is scorching for him. He may never get a shot at Cuse, UNC, Duke, Kentucky, KU or Michigan State. But he's not a guy who's going to be in demand forever. Turning down UCLA last year was a balls move. He's going to eventually have to take the 3 million dollar a year payday and revive a good program that's sucked lately. I'm shocked Howland hasn't landed somewhere fairly good. Yeah, his style is boring, but his results aren't. I know he had a lot of issues at UCLA, but those issues were pretty isolated and there's no pattern of that previously. Mizzou should look at Ben.
