Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

those are sweet Livesteam. I bet those would fun as hell to shoot all day.
and you could get some of those cheap .22lr spinner targets etc, as opposed to the thick plates for other centerfires.

Went to the range today. Should have stayed home. Huge gust of wind came threw. Had my pops Mohawk 600 siting on a table in a case that was not locked. Wind blew open the plastic case & tossed the rifle & case onto the concrete. cracked the stock & scratched it all to hell. Stock is shot. **** I feel like I went to the old mans grave & pissed on him.
Any gun I own but that one, I could live with it! BAD BAD DAY!

So my FIL took me down to the basement to day to show me his guns. He has 2 of them that are real daisies.

Remington UMC .380 Model 51 (purchased in 1923)

Colt Officers Model .22LR (purchased in 1931)

I took him to the range in Cheney and let him fire my Mini and he let me fire the Colt. VERY cool guns. We are taking the Remington out next.

I was playing darts recently, when it occurred to me that it would be kind of cool to play cricket with bullets instead of darts. Seems like it would be a fun thing to do at the range. I wonder if anybody makes dart board-style targets? I can't imagine I'm the first person to think of this.

There is a range in Lombard called Article II that has all kinds of paper targets you can use and one of them is a dartboard. I imagine if you are using ammo bigger than a 22 it wouldn't work so well though.

Ok CP gun enthusiasts, I finally got my Illinois FOID card, so it's time I purchased a gun. I am still a beginner so I am looking to probably get a handgun first so I would like any recommendations for good handguns, especially for a beginner. I don't mind getting a pricier gun.

I love my Springfield XDm. It's accurate, has a huge magazine capacity (19 rounds for a 9mm), and has a very light trigger pull for a double action. There are also indicators which can immediately identify it as being loaded and chambered, which would be helpful for a beginner. It is a bit pricy (a new one will probably go for around $600), but if that's not an issue for you I highly recommend this.

I can't remember if you still live in Aurora or not, but if you do, I strongly advise having no dealings with JR Shooting Sports. They are absolute ****ing scumbags. Prices are too high on everything and they provide customer service so horrible that it makes Comcast blush. Even though they're only five minutes from my house and have a really nice range, I refuse to set foot in the place. I either shoot at Article II (nice range but very limited selection), Mega Sports in Plainfield (they have the biggest selection of firearms I've ever seen and a nice range) or GAT Guns in West Dundee (good selection, prices and a decent range - I've bought a couple of pistols from them). Cabelas sells everything, and Bass Pro Shops sells handguns and non-assault rifles. When it comes to online stores, budsgunshop.com and summitgunbroker.com are good choices (I got my H&K from Summit).

If you'd like to go shooting some weekend, drop me a PM. I have the XDm, as well as a Heckler & Koch USP .40, a Ruger P95 9mm and a little snub .38, and you're welcome to try out any of them.

I.
that. my brother bought a Ruger LC9, and we went shooting. He was a little all over the place on target (primarily due to a LOOOOONg trigger pull); he asked to shoot my XD, and I said of course, He shot GREAT with it. once the mag was empty, he sort of looked slyly over his shoulder to me and had a grin on his face. He said 'Maaaan. That's nice'. He's already thinking of selling/trading in his LC9 for an XD lol

luckily I bought my XD when they first came out. I think I only paid like $420 for it. Same with my Sig Pro.

I had a similar experience. I was shooting my Ruger, and a buddy had rented an XDm. ****ing ruined me on the spot. Bought my own a couple of months later, and now the Ruger's back in its case in the closet. I got mine used for around $500.

Thanks for the recommendation, I will look into it. I am out in Itasca now, finally sold the damn townhouse in Aurora. We went out to GAT Guns in West Dundee and that is probably where I will buy my guns.

My brother in law let me shoot his 9 mm, 38 and 44 magnum. I was probably the most accurate with the 38 and the 44 magnum was a bitch to shoot, it kicked like a mule. The 9 mm was easy to shoot, I just wasn't too accurate with it. But given it was my first time shooting a handgun, I didn't do too badly.
