Which is why I find it offputting for Walt to go on a full episode of redemption, without being triggered by some kind of major event. Jesse killing Todd... THAT was redemption. Walt going on a killing spree is basically tying up loose ends for the shit that he created. Gilligan had a chance to allow Walt to redeem himself while still giving him something to emotionally stew on. But he didn't. It came off to me as fairly insincere attempt at redeeming a character. It was a fun episode to watch, but way too vanilla given some of the amazing stuff Breaking Bad has given us.
Him watching the Grey Matter people at the bar was a major event. And then he had a 2 day trip from New Hampshire to New Mexico to stew on it some more.

I thought him saying that was partially also to relieve some of the guilt Skyler may have carried thinking all this death was motivated by wanting to help take care of her and the kids. Surely, it did start out as 'helping' the family, but his motivation definitely changed after he got the rush of being a kingpin.

This story has a long line of people Walt has wronged, and in the end, he redeems himself and loses the least out of most of the main characters in the show.
He didn't redeem himself. He killed a bunch of people and blackmailed others.

He just won. He completely won.

No matter how bad of a guy Walt is, you can't help but love his resolve.

Jesse watched a girl he cared about get executed in cold blood.
Walt got criticized on a TV show.

There is no doubt Walt got off super light in the end. Not only did nothing really terrible happen to him compared to virtually every major character, he had a chance to fix things and get closure on others. Again, it ended fine. I just don't like how neat and conveniently it wrapped up. A show that's all about having mixed emotions about heroes and villains, they chose the route of ending it with a clear hero and a clear villain. I just feel they could have done much better.

You are underselling what Walt "endured" over the last year. He watched Hank get murdered in cold blood and was then almost stabbed to death by his own wife and watched his family rebel against him in front of his own eyes.

After this experience, he then spent an entire year in isolation to ruminate over the destruction he had wrecked upon his family.

I am no fan of Walt, I wanted him off'd by Gus, Mike and Hank (though I knew it wouldn't happen), but I do not believe he got off "light". The insult on national TV was not the consequence for his actions, it was what spurred Walt onto his path for redemption.

Again... Jesse killing Todd, that felt like raw, sincere redemption. Walt conveniently patching every loose end up and dying with everything tidy and neat, it just didn't do it for me. No real conflict in today's episode. He cleaned up a lot of messes in a short episode, which feels too James Bond for me.

Question (and I should be able to remember, but I can't):

In this episode, did Walt go see Skyler first or meet up with Lydia and Todd? I can't remember which came first.

Really enjoyed the finale, and it restored some justification in even finishing this last season.

That said, I would never watch the whole series again. I absolutely loathed the split between Walt and Jesse. When that went so far south, it just ruined much of the enjoyment, and everything became a horrible train-wreck.

Good finish, and many great seasons though.. thanks, V.G.

So, he actually didn't know that Lydia had threatened to kill his family until after he'd already poisoned her. That being said, he could probably figure out that Lydia represented a threat to his family regardless.. but it does make his poisoning of her a little more cold blooded.

I thought he found out about it in an earlier episode, maybe from the vacuum salesman?
