A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

The best part though is that I turned my fiancé into a Royals fan. That may not sound like much but she is from Peru so before she met me 5 years ago she knew nothing about sports at all.

I have managed to convert her to a pretty knowledgable fan this season especially since she is done with school. She says "oh no" when Broxton comes out and uses terms like "closer" and "sac fly" and complains about Frenchy swinging at the first pitch all the time. All this on her own accord. Plus she loves going to the games just as much as me and constantly suggests we go. I also turned her into a KU fan a few years ago (helps she went to KU Nursing) and a Chiefs fan last season.

Two years ago she couldn't understand why us Chiefs fans get so mad after a loss. This past season she was complaining about how bad Palko was in our game against the Patriots and pointing out how weak his arm is. We get to be miserable together haha.

I'm under 30 (at least for 32 more days I am), too.

It's been tough. I've actually become MORE of a baseball fan as I've gotten older. I grew up in central MO and actually rooted for the Cardinals as a secondary team. Then I moved to St. Louis for work and dealt with the Cards fanbase as a whole for the first time.

My Cardinals fandom shrunk accordingly. Thankfully, that was right around the same time the Royals began to show glimmers of hope again...

Respect to tegu and duncan... I'm not sure I could do it if I hadn't grown up in the glory years and seen it happen.

Then again I root for the Chiefs and rooted for the Kings so I probably would.

I'm glad a younger generation can see the progress being made enough to stick with the team. Quiting is easy but real fans don't quit. I hope you guys get to see what I saw over again... and me too.

Pretty sure I heard one of your radio guys say that the K is the only MLB stadium Chipper Jones hasn't played in, and now he's on the All Star team. That's a cool story. No Bro.
