Chiefs Redoing the 1989 Draft - Page 3

I have read on here more than once that the hiring of Reid and Dorsey is akin to the hirings of Carl and Marty. Hypothetically, let us say that the new regime has the No. 1 pick of the 1989 draft. Who do you take? I am curious to see the results. I want to see who truly appreciates and understands the value of the QB position.

I think it's pretty difficult for Chiefs fans to vote against Derrick Thomas.

I don't think Aikman is the same QB in Kansas City as he was in Dallas.

No Jimmy Johnson, Norv Turner, Ron Turner, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Jay Novacek, Darryl Johnston, etc.

I mean, in the 80s and 90s, passing wasn't as important as it is now. Think about the Chiefs defenses of those days. They wouldn't have been nearly as dominant without DT. After all he did for this franchise, it seems like betrayal to go back and say, "No, we didn't want you. We should have picked someone else."

All this is true, , and I know this goes against tradtional KC thinking when I say Aikmans the pick,but he's got the rings .

Aikman, Okoyo, Stephan Paige, Barry Word, the Chiefs would have been more than Ok....of course, Aikman really didnt get good until his 3rd year in after Norvs tutelage.

The choice here is obvious.

Um, you're missing the part where that team isn't loaded with nearly as many hall of famers as the Cowboys team of the time. That, is why I believe Aikman is even an option in this poll. He didn't put the team on his back, and he certainly didn't go out there and win game after game after game for the cowboys. That defense, that running game, those were the reasons why they went into the playoffs year after year.

He's "got the rings" due to the coaches and players around him.

When the team began to age and decline, Aikman couldn't put them on his back and win. He wasn't in the same category as Steve Young, Joe Montana, John Elway, etc.

Gotta agree with Dane here, Aikman was surrounded by all world talent and coaching in Dallas.

Yep. pretty much. I will say he was absolutely nails in the playoffs and when they needed a clutch throw, he came through.

Aikman aged with the team and got the living shit beat week in /weak out.

I'm not arguing that we had equivalent talent in KC around the QB, I'm saying we haven't had an Aikman.
