This show is nothing like the original. The version of Galactica is FAR more dark than the 70's version. I watched the first few shows based on my liking the original, but it didn't take long to become a convert of this one. They have added to and embelished the original storyline, but really have done a great job running parallel with the original. Overall, it's the best show Sci-Fi has come up with yet, imho.

Good advice by Third Eye. Rent the first season to see if it's your taste.

The cool thing is that, instead of outright ignoring the original and just taking the character/tech names, they've transformed elements and the look of that show into a historical basis for the new series (old series was 1st cylon war, new series is 2nd). And not since the original miniseries was that as evident as in the weekend's movie, and it's apparently a big part of the final season.

I picked up the DVD of Razor today. Well worth the price - the extended footage isn't just fluff - there are lots of added FX combat scenes and worthwhile dramatic stuff as well. Lots of extras on the DVD as well.

I'd say it's a must for those of you who have bought the other DVDs.

The best part was lots of extra combat with young Adama vs. the old Cylon raiders, plus the destruction of a battlestar during that battle. It rocked. There was also extended footage of the Scorpio shipyard that gave it a real Pearl Harbor in space feel.

They really did an outstanding job.

Sounds like they cut a ton of shit out. How long was the uncut movie, Tim?

This will be a certain buy.

I think it was around 2 hours. The scifi broadcast was 2 hours with commercials, so there was a lot of added stuff.

It certainly explained how Adm. Nyala Cain came to act the way she did. Especially with "Gina".

The last flashback really got to me. Reminded me of the FTL jump of the RTFF to Ragnar Anchorage when the Cylons found them in the miniseries.

The Adama/Cylon Gandalf/Balrog moment was fun too.

Uncut runtime is about 1:45. Broadcast version was 1:27.

Seemed longer - I guess that's because I watched all the bonus stuff as soon as it was over.

The runner-up for coolest part of the extended version is young Husker calling one of the Cylons a "one who sucks the penis" roflmao. Guess that's a no-no on SciFi.

The coolest part, by a landslide, was the Hybrid foreshadowing of events, which did not appear in the broadcast:

"At last they've come for me. I feel their lives, their destinies spilling out before me. The denial of the one true path played out on a world not their own will end soon enough.

Soon there will be four, glorious in awakening. Struggling with the knowledge of their true selves. The pain of revelation bringing new clarity.

And in the midst of confusion he will find her, enemies brought together by impossible longing, enemies now joined as one.

The way forward, at once unthinkable, yet inevitable.

And the fifth, still in shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering.

I can see them all. The seven, now six, self-described machines who believe themselves without sin. But in time it is sin that will consume them. They will know enmity, bitterness, the wrenching agony of the one splintering into the many.

And then they will join the promised land, gathered on the wings of an angel.

Not an end, but a beginning."

Holy shit.

Season 4's going to be a ride.

After reading this, I went back and rewatched that scene - I didn't catch the "one who sucks the penis" line before, but he sure as hell said it - even showed up on the subtitles.
