****Official Mizzou Head Basketball Coach Search****

Thought I'd start a new one of these. The old one is infected with the Haith Aids plus it had the wrong number of astericks.

Petro: Who? Who are these coaches?

Caller: OK, maybe there aren't examples, and maybe Anderson won't be able to pull the 5-star guys, but I think he'll still do OK.

Petro: You don't get 5-star guys now. You're getting a 4-star, a 3-star, and a few 2-stars. The worry is that even this will go down.

Call done.

Have to hope that if Alden puts Anderson's name forward that the Board saves the former from himself and fires his ass on the spot.
That's exactly it. Those in the pro-Anderson camp really can't make any arguments to support Kim Anderson over, say, Ben Howland.

Anderson will get his teams to play tough defense; Ben Howland is one of the best defensive coaches in the recent history of college basketball.

Anderson will have a hard-nosed team; Again, find a Ben Howland team that WASN'T hard-nosed at Pittsburgh or UCLA (in the early days).

Anderson is a proven winner as a coach and has championships; a D2 national title is nice, but Howland has been to 3 Final Fours and 2 Sweet 16s. He's also won multiple conference championships in the past decade, at a higher level. All of those trump winning a D2 natty.

Anderson is a great Xs and Os guy; Even if true, Ben Howland is regarded as one of the top 5 X and O coaches in college basketball, according to NATIONAL guys like Mike DeCourcy (who actually is a little anti-Missouri ... probably a product of working with so many Missouri grads at Sporting News).

All of Anderson's strengths, Howland is stronger at. And he adds the benefit of being a much more well-established recruiter at the high D1 level. His success at Pitt shows what he can do with the talent of talent he could recruit to Mizzou (1-2 top 30-75 guys/class, 1-2 75-100 guys/class, 1-2 100-150 guys/class).

There's really no comparison.

Completely spot on. If Alden passes on Howland, the former is a gutless ****ing turd. He tried to make the "safe" hire with Haith in terms of character concerns, and this came within a fraction of blowing up impressively in the University's face. In fact, it should have, but Haith was spared an execution at the 11th hour.

Yeah, I'll be ****ing pissed if we hire a coach who immediately legitimizes the program. That would suck.

The rumors I have heard (again... rumors) was that this was to approve an offer to Greg Marshall for $3.2 and a contingency offer to Howland for $2.2. If that is the case, then this BOC was just for that and now the offers can be sent.

I don't think I necessarily believe any of that though as that would mean Marshall would make more than Pinkel.
