Another School Shooting - Centennial, CO

CENTENNIAL - There were two people injured during an incident at Arapahoe High School in the 2200 block of East Dry Creek Road in Centennial.

Police are calling it an "active shooter situation."

No one is in custody at this time.

The identity of the victims is not being released at this time.

Arapahoe High School is a part of Littleton Public Schools. There are 70 different classrooms in the high school which covers a 254,000-square-foot area. There are 2,229 students that attend the high school. The school was built in 1964.

No, he didn't. School shootings were certainly not unheard of 20 years ago. Here's a TV archive summation of the Stockton Massacre from 1989. You might take note of the newsreader and the station. You've probably heard of both.

According to the Wikipedia list, there were nine school shootings in the entire decade from 1910-1919. By contrast, there have been 21 so far just this year.

Our population has quadrupled since then, so even if we quadruple the older figure as well, that's still going from 3.6 per year, to 21 per year, and this year isn't even over yet.

I'd say we can cut him a little slack on the 'unheard of' comment.

We should cut him slack because, even though his comment claiming this was unheard of 20 years ago was idiotic, and even though it was absolutely not unheard of 20 years ago, there was a time, when the population was much lower than it is now, when it didn't happen as often? What the **** kind of logic is that? It was the 1989 shooting that led to the California assault rifle ban, for crying out loud.

In this country, school shootings have been happening since the 1700's, and kids have been popping one another in schools since at least as far back as the 1800's.

BTW, if you're trying to refer to the fact that the Stockton shooter was an adult, I get that, but I was noting that school shootings were already widely known and that one led to the assault weapons ban. If you must have a student shooter in your examples, there were plenty of others in the 80's, and before, that got coverage.

It is a waste, and all so avoidable.

Personally, I find it to be far worse when adults do this shit than the kids. The kids were living with other teenagers and had to deal with the high school shit. No, it's not an excuse, but we can at least recognize that the instability would naturally turn against the thing that makes life difficult for teenagers.

Adults who are just off their ****ing rockers and think it's a great idea to gun down innocent students make me far angrier about these kinds of stories.

No, I was saying I agreed incidents like this didn't "seem" to exist 20 years ago because of a lack of news coverage, not because it didn't happen. Play on words.

More freaks come out of the woodworks when the coverage increased, sure. But, as the wiki site outlined, school shootings have clearly happened for more than the last 100 years, let alone 20. Which was the first point of posting the wiki page and the point of about three other posters after, I was repeating the thought in my own way, cp way, where several posters say the same thing several times like they were the first to say it.

Because you guys are jumping all over a specific and ignoring the point (that I think) he was trying to make. School shootings have gotten a lot worse than they had been - yes, they existed back in Ye Olden Days, but look at the dramatic increase in recent years. It's not their existence that's new, it's their terrible and increasing frequency.
