I'm not sure he is. Fury lies a lot to manipulate people. We never saw the medics "call time of death" on Coulson; that's just what Fury told the Avengers. He can be dead if the filmmakers want him to be, but the door is open to him coming back. IIRC, he's already signed to be in Iron Man 3 (although that could be a flashback). There's also some net speculation that he will be "resurrected" as the Vision.

Why complicate shit?

You can either have some halfassed movie where the plot of the film is Tony getting back to Earth (yawn) and maybe having some type of throwdown with some character we've never seen before (bigger yawn) Or you can just have the Avengers kick ass and go on about their day so that it sets the stage for Iron Man 3 to be wide open to introduce any one of the many arch enemies that Iron Man has in the books.

Think about it. Who would be the antagonist in a film with Stark stuck in that alien world that Thanos was hanging out in? It sure as hell wouldnt be Thanos, not if anyone at Marvel wanted to keep any shred of credibility.

I just dont see it working. Besides that, Avengers was way too cool to smear with a downer like that. Agent Coulson getting killed by Loki was big enough of a downer by itself.

They're apparently moving towards making a TV series based on the comic Alias. The main character in that is Jessica Jones, who is married to Luke Cage - so that's where you might see him.

Yeah, he said something like "They told me we won the war... They didn't tell me what we'd lost". I'm assuming that's what he was getting at but they didn't really delve into that any more.

I appreciated the fact that Marvel could have just settled and made an average movie (*cough* Transformers *cough*) with these characters and still made a sh*tload of money but refused to do that. They aimed high. They hired the right creative talent, actors, etc.

They got so many of the small details right and made a great story......Captain America became the team leader on the ground, Stark was the "Lone wolf" at first who came around in the end, The Thor and Loki brother drama was great, they finally got the Hulk right and made him the star of the flick.



The list goes on.....How the team doubted SHIELDs true intentions.....Fury was a commanding leader of SHIELD...they even made me care about Black Widow and Hawkeye and i honestly didnt think i would care much about them going in. Just amazing the work Whedon accomplished here. Its really nice to see him have this huge payoff success after so many years of being a "geek" cult god.

This is what happens when you stick a comic scifi nerd at the helm and give him some money... That and most of the other actors got to flesh their characters in other movies..

There is no way you could do this with JL...

Now if they could do this with xmen 4 and 5.. 4 vs. sentinels and 5 vs. apocalypse..

If I had my dream pick for new Avengers it would be Spiderman and Wolverine. They'd need to pony up to use those two, but it would be worth it.

Also, the silly Super Hero Squad cartoon isn't Canon, but I liked their usage of Dr. Doom to gather his all-star villain group and find the infinity gauntlet. Doom wasn't done properly before. I think he makes a good lead into Thanos.

There's no way they'll buy back Spider-Man, Wolverine, or anybody in any other other studios' Marvel movies. They'll simply be too expensive, especially considering they can just tell stories using others of the 5000 or characters Marvel has running around.

I can't imagine they'll go too much farther without introducing Hank Pym/Ant-Man, if not in his own movie, in Avengers 2. Wasp too, as she's his wife - maybe like they did with War Machine, as 'herself' first, then she discovers his secret and adapts it for her own. They've already announced Mandarin for Iron Man 2, but others to look out for are Ultron (for Iron Man or Ant-Man), Enchantress (for Thor), and Baron Zemo (for Captain America).

Some Internet People are suggesting that Coulson will be used as the template for building the Vision in Avengers 2, which I could definitely see.
