Gary Oldman signs up for RoboCop

Gary Oldman Joining MGM's 'Robocop' Remake

Gary Oldman has inked a deal to star opposite Joel Kinnaman in MGM’s remake of Robocop.

Jose Padilha is directing the film, which is being produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman.

Kinnaman (The Killing) plays the title character, a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer.

Oldman will play Norton, the scientist who creates Robocop and finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation.

The production is eyeing a September shoot in Toronto and has a tentative release date of summer 2013.

Just saw this tonight. Worth the $1.50 on Redbox but not much more. Original was def better. I did like how this one tied in his family a little more. And I thought Michael Keaton was great. I agree with some else and give it a 5.5 on the 1-10 scale

I give the new one 6.5 out of 10.

The crime lord couldn't carry Kurtwood Smith's jock. Boddicker is an all-time bad guy.

Positives:

Better Action
Much better use of cybernetics
Philosophical questions

Negatives:

Bad guys sucked
Bad guys had no character
No gore
I didn't give a shit about Murphy this time around. No character development

It's almost as if they the swapped strengths/weaknesses from old to new.
