Misc Tipping valet drivers - Page 2

Say I was staying in a hotel that had a valet service, and I decided to use it. Most hotels like this charge you to even self-park, but they usually charge more for valet. It's customary to tip the valet driver when he brings you your car, right? How much do you tip him? I mean, you're already paying extra for the service. I don't want to be cheap though.

Speaking of costs,have you noticed that full service hotels no longer have focking phone books in the rooms,instead they want you to ask for help at the front desk which imo means we helped so how about a tip

I know a couple ex-valets drivers and some of the hot-rodding stories they tell me are crazy.

Anyway, $3 to $5 is what I've tipped in the past.

I never use phone books any more. My computer and phone are way more efficient.

I find tipping is generally a good idea when some idiot is in charge of something that will get me back home! Anyhow $5 is more than sufficient, but $3 is probably more what they should get. Sadly some of them will treat your stuff like crap no matter how much you tip.

It depends on how fast they bring the car back.

The word "tip" means: "to ensure promptness." If they get it right way, nice tip. If they screw around or ignore me...nothing.

I've always wondered if you're supposed tip the guy that receives your car or just the guy that returns your car. Many times they are not the same guy. I usually only tip the latter.

Hell yes. I get sick of it. I don't like going somewhere w/ someone having the expectation that I'm going to pay them X or this or that. I know you are paying for service, but the same thing can be said about any industry. If you pay more and hire quality employees, their level of service will generally be higher.

The workers at Chick-Filet are excellent, and from what I have been told they get paid higher than most any fast food chain. The workers at Costco provide excellent customer service, and that is why they get paid more than most any retail place.

Meh, if you want tipping done away with then don't get married to the food prices as they are in restaurants.

...or the service for that matter.
