Don't Hesitate. Speculate.

So ... Fa-Va-Rah is going to be a Jetski. All well and good. In turn, however, the odds that Pennington will soon be a Chief have increased dramatically. Assuming for a moment that the Chadster joins our beloved team, what effect would this move have on Croyle and the team as a whole? Will Croyle sense additional pressure to perform and respond positively? Will he fold like an origami addict in a windstorm? Will LJ call for Chad to start? Will Herm admit that he is secretly in love with Pennington? Will Carl invite Chad to his office to peruse his engravings?

Please post your views on this matter in this awesome thread. 100 or so opinions will suffice.

It has only been a matter of time since Chad Pennington joins the Chiefs.

Simmah!! Simmah down na!!!

It's a discussion board, Mr. the Talking Can. I'm discussionating.

I'm just wondering what effect, either negative or positive, the acquisition of Pennington might have on the team. I mean, bringing in a new quarterback is kind of a big deal. Especially one with game experience and a past relationship with the head coach. I don't think Hermoine will end the Croyle experiment. In fact, it might be the best thing for Croyle to feel some pressure. It might help his focus.

"Will the Chiefs sign Chad Pennington" should be added to the casino.

I'd bet no.

I don't see him coming to the Chiefs unless he'll play for HE for free and they can save a buttload of money cutting DH.

Why? You think Huard is any better?

Croyle is herm's QB. It's too late to unhitch that wagon. He's got to give him this whole year and if he is still running for his life this year the chance to prove himself goes into next year also.

I planted Pennington Grass Seed a few years ago. Its pretty cool and they dye it green. There is no Croyle grass seed even available.

That tells me a lot.

What will happen? Well, Thigpen will be relegated to third on the depth chart, Chad at number 2, and Huard will be sent packing, damn the contract. It ain't THAT much in the grander scheme of things...and I think Pennington > Huard, so it probably wouldn't be a bad thing...

You may be right, Mr. DaKCMan AP. I hope you're right. Herm may recognize that Pennington's signing could well disrupt the team at this point. On the one hand, competitive pressure from the sideline is desirable. In this case, however, Herm has to demonstrate a commitment to Croyle and Pennington's acquisition would, to some degree, fracture the perception of that commitment. Of course, there's the other issue involving Croyle's ability to be healthy for all 16 games.

OK, I'll bite:

1) He's better than Huard
2) He's better than Thigpen
3) He might be better than Croyle
4) I don't like the idea of our backup QB being an undrafted FA from last year
5) Having a quality backup if/when Brodie misses one or more games allows the rest of our team to continue growing around the veteran QB rather than just idling (or regressing) until Croyle returns
6) One of our 2 backups needs to be a veteran QB. See (1) above.

If Huard is stinking it up in camp as much as I've heard, then dumping him in favor of Pennington is a no-brainer. The only question is whether Chad would be willing to be a true backup, or whether he'd rather go somewhere where he might have a better shot at playing. I see him as being #3 on the depth chart so Thigpen gets the #2 snaps in practice, but in the event of an injury to Croyle, Pennington would play depending on the timing and nature of the injury (and the status of Thigpen's preparation).

While I think Huard is worthless, I'm fine having a vet on this year's squad as long as he sucks - like Huard. I don't want Brodie looking over his shoulder THIS YEAR. Additionally, in the event that Brodie does get injured I'd rather have Thigpen play and go through some growing pains than watch the team try to play .500 ball with Pennington.

The "bad thing", Mr. InChiefsHell, is the fact that Pennington and Herm have a history. He was Herm's starting quarterback. Croyle might well feel as though Herm's confidence in him is wavering and quarterbacks need to know that their HC is behind them 100 percent.

I agree on Croyle.

But if Croyle and Thigpen don't pan out I don't want Huard or Pennington either. I've seen enough of the latter two to think there's got to be a better direction to turn than them.
