California Bay area dealing w/ mass exodus

Oakhater could live near you guise!

Quote:
“You can’t even contemplate getting into the housing market here,” Hancock said. “And I don’t mean just service workers, but highly skilled professionals. The tech elite are having a hard time affording reasonable housing in Silicon Valley. That makes it difficult for employers to recruit.”

Operators of a San Jose U-Haul business say one of their biggest problems is getting its rental moving vans back because so many are on a one-way ticket out of town.

Dabak cites crowding, crime and politics as the reasons for her own exodus.

“We don’t like it here anymore. You know, we don’t like this sanctuary state status and just the politics,” she said.

She plans to sell her home for about $1 million, buy a much larger place near Nashville for less than half that and retire closer to family and friends.

A lot of the denial posted here in this thread is exactly why California will continue to drown...refusal to see what's happening before their very eyes.

I wonder why the houses are so expensive if it sucks to live there so much?

I wonder why the houses arent cheaper since everyone is leaving? How the hell is that lady gonna sell her house for $1,000,000 with everyone leaving and no one being able to afford to live there?

This whole Bay Area Exodus thing seems to defy the laws of supply and demand.

I read a piece not long ago that because rental and hotel prices are also in the stratosphere there, some people are buying properties up to use exclusively as AirBNBs.

It occurred to me after i posted that you could be referring to some Midwest shit hole. My bad. Can't say i've ever seen a "post apocalypse 'hood" in San Diego.

As someone who's lived literally on the streets, and who now has a good career all right here in SoCal, i find the hyperbole that conservatives generally spout to be ridiculous.

As you stated, yes the cost of living here is high, and yes you can find far better value elsewhere. Hence, it's not surprising when the retired move.

I was born and raised here. My lively hood and career are here. When i get to the point of retiring, i plan to flip and move too. Has nothing to do with the quality of life in San Diego. Everything to do with pocketing hundreds of thousands of dollars and improving my financial well being.

Very true.

The thing is though, while Hotel prices are very high, you'd be hard pressed to find vacancy on a Friday night w/o prior reservations. These hotels and rentals aren't struggling like these idiots suggest.

These guys are charging $200 a night and still selling out.

Meanwhile....there's a massive condo boom here in downtown San Diego. The Concrete Jungle as we like to call it.

Obviously you don’t understand what’s going on.

She’s most likely going to sell it to an investment group that in turn will rent it out.

You are correct. She was doing her tax payer funded body guard, while her son was OD-ing on pain meds and making sure her tax payer funded body guard got stacks of dough working overtime.

Make up facts?

Are you saying CBS Bay Area/Silicon Valley Joint Venture Study is full of shit?

Of course people come and go from the Bay Area all the time, but for the first time in a long time, more people are leaving the Bay Area than are coming in. And the number one place in the country for out-migration is now, right here.
