Spinoff thread for AR owners

Would you comply with a federal or state order to turn in your AR15s, AK47s, and related "military style weapons"? Poll incoming.

Fun rifle, well at least before me and Munson lost it I'm considering looking for another one, but I got such a good deal on this one, I'm afraid another one would likely be a letdown. $400 and all it needed was a gas block. Guy tried to modify it for whatever reason. So for another $15ish bucks, there I am

I don't own a single gun, but would go out and get one of these if a law was passed as a conscientious objector.

No an AR round is not louder than an AK but that could also depend on muzzle brake. That makes a huge difference in sound.

BAsed on the same barrel and muzzle brake -

A US 7.62 is louder than a Soviet.

US round (M60) is longer than Soviet (AK).

7.62 X 54MM vs 7.62 X 39MM.

Yes there is a difference but they are both way louder than 5.56MM.

Dont wanna derail the thread, but yeah it kinda makes no sense for me to want an AR, been weighing the pros and cons for years now

I'm very familiar with an AR platform, know how to dial in the sights, know how to take it apart and clean it, all of the little pins and springs in the bolt etc

But in a real survival scenario, I want punching power and reliability... the AK gives me both, as for accuracy let me worry about that, when the sights are dialed in I can hit what I need to hit

Probably using this years tax return on one at Scheels, you cant hardly break one of them... so I figure it can take most abuses and still keep firing, without needing meticulous cleaning after every few mags

Josh makes a good point.

That's why banning ARs would pretty much be impossible.

I just got an extra Smith & Wesson. Nice little AR and at really good deal. I honestly have to figure out how the hell I'm going to fit it in my gun safe.

I agree completely. If I had to grab a gun out of the safe in a shit hits the fan scenario it would be one of my Ak's without question, unless I had to pull off some really long shots, in which case I would grab the AR-10.

You can drag an AK across a creek, drop it on boulders and rub it down with mud and it will still shoot, an AR, not so much.

I have both. AK reliability is off the charts.

But an AR will be much easier if shit hits the fan to find spare mags, ammo, and parts for.

Having that problem too. I don't have a safe, but I am one rifle over what my cabinet will hold so I have my .22 under the bed.

Speaking of which, don't want to get too far OT, but if anybody knows where I can get a nice 8-10 rifle wood cabinet, I might be interested
