Real Talk: The Defense

So I was having a conversation with a fellow Chiefs fan the other day that has had the opportunity to watch some game film from since the San Diego game. I just wanted to get some good football opinion on what he said because it makes sense to me.

Basically Earlier in the season we were screaming that our offense was vanilla and we weren't doing many "dynamic" things. In week 11 and 12 we saw a different offense, more dynamic plays and Alex throwing down the field. There were some theories that the reason the offense was so vanilla was that we weren't trying to give up the whole playbook right away.

Starting in week 12 we saw a huge departure of the defense we had come to love in the first 11 weeks. Granted some of the departure could have been due to injuries (Hali/Houston) but what interests me the most is that my friend has said that we are not blitzing or stunting as much as we were earlier in the season. I'm wondering if we are going "vanilla" on defense so that there will be less game film on what we will really do come playoff time? I know conspiracy theory, but I think it makes sense, as long as we know we can do what we did in the Raiders game and not have another San Diego game.

I didn't get a chance to watch the game yesterday, I get it Lewis is a terrible safety I have been saying that all year too, however I think that the lack of blitzing and stunting has left our secondary even more exposed than normal.

So what do the CP experts think?

Just to be clear you are pleased with Kendrick Lewis' play?

Yeah lol. He's the best safety in the league. Well on his way to having his bust enshrined in Canton, Ohio.

At some point, those of us that believed that Powe had something have to come to grips with the fact that wew were apparently wrong.

I don't know that, and as much as I like to coach from the couch, the fact is that Reid, Sutton and staff are in a far better position to make that call than I am.

I still think it would have been wise to keep Glenn Dorsey and to have him split time with Poe at the nose.

Oh well.

Sad but true, i'm sure Sutton would've loved to have a 6'3 340 pound behemoth coming off the bench in relief if the guy could play at some pro level.

IIRC we thought we had worked out a deal with Dorsey when he 9ers called him...

at that point can you blame him for going?

I know, but part of that rumor was that we weren't gonna play him at nose.

It's too bad we couldn't get something signed because if we had him, our DL would be on another level right now. That would give us one more solid player for the rotation to help keep us fresh late in games and down this stretch going into the playoffs.

Like I said, oh well.

As far as Poe is concerned, I bet he tells the laches he wants to play every snap.

That guy is a stud and will probably continue to be the best NT in football for awhile.
