Bowes says we're going Deep /gonna blow up the scoreboard

I just hope blowing up the scoreboard isn't considered a terroristic threat or Bowe may be done for the year.

Chiefs | Dwayne Bowe likes new offense
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 09:58:30 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe said he likes the offense that head coach Andy Reid has brought to the team. "Throwing the ball deep, that's something we haven't done in the past so I'm excited right now. The play calling is totally different from last year. It's not check downs or putting it in the running back's hands. This guy likes to go down the field, take the top off (the defense) and that's something we haven't done in the past, put up a lot of points. This season he said we're going to blow out the scoreboard and that's something I'm looking forward to," Bowe said.

Chiefs | Not committed to trading Branden Albert
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 09:12:32 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said the team is not committed to trading OT Branden Albert even though they have allowed his agent to talk with the Miami Dolphins. "Branden Albert is a good football player," Dorsey said. "We wouldn't have stuck the franchise tag on him if he wasn't. It's my job to explore all options and that's kind of what's going on."

I definitely believe Smith is an upgrade over what we've had the last decade, but i wouldnt argue that point at all, i wasnt thrilled either, at all.

He isnt a sexy choice by any means, and has many of the same earmarks as past failures... i just hope he proves cerebral enough to overcome the physical limitations, like say, a Drew Brees who doesnt have a cannon but throws deep very well because of anticipation, timing and ability to read defenses.

Now it's THE LAST DECADE?

Alex Smith is in no way better than Trent Green.

It's questionable whether he's better than Cassel. We're about to find out.

Smith isn't better than Trent Green.

Brees was a very good QB when the Chargers released him. The problem was the shoulder injury. That caused enough doubts to prevent them from being able to get the trade value. The Saints rolled the dice on the health of his shoulder and it paid off. But Brees was a very good QB his last two years in SD, his fourth and fifth seasons in the league. Smith has completed 7 years and leaving Brees' injury aside, isn't nearly the QB that Brees was when he went to the Saints. The situations are quite different.

Trent Green was probably the premier 'game manager' type QB of his era. If Alex Smith can be Trent Green, we'll win a Super Bowl. If Trent had any kind of defense at all, he might have won 2.

Given the last couple of years, I doubt very seriously that Alex Smith will be Matt Cassel.

Either way, I don't think he's Reid's only plan.

You are correct that it's not a useless metric, but it is a useless metric to determine if a QB is good at throwing deep. For Smith if you ask why he has a good YPC it is two reasons: 1) high completion precentage and 2) good YAC by his receivers. If you calculate his air yards per completion, they are among the lowest in the league. He's a dink and dunk QB. You can see that from watching 49ers games or by looking at the stats. It is what he is.

Alex Smith throwing Green numbers means the defense is better than the 85 Bears and the 2000 Ravens. They'd have to play otherworldly good.

I won't belabor the comparison between Cassel and Alex. That's already been done more eloquently by others here.

And Alex Smith is Reid's only plan. Unless you believe Daniel / Stanzi / Tanney are QBoTF material. A QB picked later than 2nd round is wasted in any year, and this year every pick has to hit to contribute. There are too mAny holes to take a developmental project guy.

To date, Alex Smith has shown 0 ability to be similar to Trent Green.

Point me to his 4500, or even 3700-yard seasons.

Green was easily a top 10 QB during 4 seasons here. Alex Smith is average.

Didn't Alex Smith have really shitty OC's and coaches in general and they changed the offense several times before Harbaugh arrived?

Is it possible that Reid will be able to provide stability and have Smith play at a high level?

Alex's YPA is "high."

His YPC is a hilariously low 11.4 in comparison.

That would have ranked 24th in the NFL last season (he didn't qualify due to low attempts).

Better than Matt Cassel's 11.2 though!

And the previous year when he played the whole season...24th.

Dink and dunk POS.

FYP.

If you drop a circa 2002-2005 Trent Green into Andy Reid's offense with the Chiefs today, it isn't equivalent to those Al Saunder's offenses. It can be, but just dropping an equivalent to Trent Green in won't make it happen by magic. We don't have anything close to that OL and we have 2 play makers and a bunch of guys who haven't lived up to their potential/hype (Moeaki, Baldwin, McCluster).

This defense can still go on tilt where we give up 35 points per game. We're not going to win any championships when we routinely do that.

Alex Smith averages 11.4 YPC. In "good seasons."

Matt Cassel averaged 11.9 in 2010.

Tyler Thigpen averaged 11.3 in 2008.

DAMON HUARD averaged 12.7 in 2006.

This is what we're dealing with.
