The ACC had to backfill spots to stay alive much the same way the Big 12 did. It's not like the Iowa State to WVU roadies are going to destination games.

Then again, I don't know why you mention Syracuse and Pitt fans living in/visiting Columbia, SC. The Gamecocks are in the SEC. Clemson is located in...wait for it...Clemson, SC.

TV must have found something more appealing about WVU than Louisville. Wonder if they have any kind of market driven data, ratings studies, etc that they're privy to? I betcha they do.


The idea Texas made the decision to bring in WVU over Louisville over the objections of an opposed conference membership who obeyed like a dog......is something so hilariously dumb, only a Mizzoutard could believe it.

As a KU fan, I believe athletic success to be more important to a conference than a slightly higher reach in population. The big 12 missed a big opportunity with Louisville, if they wanted WVU, then they should have selected Louisville over the lush tv ratings grab known as TCU.

I wanted Louisville too, but only because I'm a much bigger hoops fan than football. Fox Sports didn't want them here probably because their reach is so low outside of their home city. TCU was taken because they were available and ATM & Mizzou refused to wait a year to move. (That's why they were both punished financially by the Big 12)


The member schools want to play in Texas as much as possible so they in fact wanted TCU in. And it's a big reason they weren't hot on expanding past 10, because the Northern schools didn't want to bring in others and lose any games down there. If you bring in Louisville & BYU to get to 12, we end up playing games there instead of in Texas.

Then it was shortsighted to let NBC influence your decision this heavily. They don't care about the long-term viability of the conference, as there is no Big 12 network in partnership with NBC. They want the short-term buck because they can wash their hands of the conference if things go sour.

Louisville may have saved the ACC.

The ACC was never in any danger of going under, didn't need saving. Florida State was likely not going to leave, and Clemson was absolutely never interested in the least. The idea they'd go to the Big 12 was always pretty dumb. As for TV, they signed a 10-year $2B contract with the Big 12. So I'll have to assume they care (a bit) what goes on with their inventory at the investment.
